We're DOOMED!
I give up! Let's just give back the Senate and the House to the Republicans. My God. There is an election for leadership posts in the House and some Democrats are supporting one candidate and other Democrats are supporting another candidate. My God! It's like people are actually going to vote and pick someone to a leadership post. We simply can't let this work of Democracy stand! If Nancy Pelosi's guy doesn't win the leadership post in the House, why the ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS GOING TO IMPLODE. We better just give the government back to the Republicans. We simply can't allow the Democrats to blindly vote for the leaders that they want.

There, how's that? Why let Rush Limbaugh and the MSM and Faux News hammer and hammer and hammer away about how disfunctional the Dems are, when we are more than happy to do it for them on DU?

In the grand scheme of things, this is nothing but an internal vote to pick leadership members for the new Democratic Majority. The Right-Wing-Noise-Machine does a good enough job turning this "non-story" into a crisis. We don't need to pump the coal for them.

1. Wha--?
Wow. It just goes to show that two people can have a completely different experience on any given day in GD. Carry on with your disgruntledness.

6. My Point is that
the election of the House leadership is being blown way out of proportion in it's importance and impact. This happens all the time. People run for leadership posts. Some win, some lose, but in the grand scheme of things...it amounts to a hill of beans.

Look, Trent Lott was just elected Minority Whip BY ONE VOTE. Doesn't seem like a ringing endorsement, does it? But you don't hear a peep about it from the corporate news media. Why? Because their entire mantra is that the Democrats are having "infighting", or are "disfuctional".

I've seen too many threads on here where DU seems to be buying into the MSM mantra. If we let the leadership votes run their course, no one will be talking about this two weeks from now.

They (the MSM and Hate-radio) are trying to put a wedge in the Democratic Party leadership before they even get started. I don't want to contribute to that.

13. Yup, it's the MSM again

Lott won by one vote... so it was a close race (25-24). So, can anyone name who his opponent was? What were the issues that divided the candidates, what factions in the Senate lined up behind each person? Why isn't the MSM all over this dysfunctional blow up in the Republican party?

:sarcasm: :sarcasm:

No, the story is "Lott is BAAAACK"!

Don't you just love the MSM? And how they are now OUR lapdogs! (NOT)

Note to Dems: I know you WANT to be on the TEE VEE, but maybe for 6 months, you just decline all interviews, talk shows, etc. Release your talking points and/or information via written press release, and stick to doing things behind closed doors.

2. Don't you know
EVERYONE in the country cares about who the majority leader in the house is.

Well, actually I would bet that over 75% of the population doesn't even know that position exists. Hell, even the people at fox think there is a "minority speaker."

Yeah, this is big news to the nation.

7. Exactly -- ANYTHING to keep the focus off Shrubya and his failure
to get the Vietnam trade deal through and the fact he's only meeting with Putin in an airport lounge. Wonder if he's got his karaoke act planned for APEC (that's the same conference that gave us the PRICELESS footage of Colin Powell as a Village Person).

9. I was being sarcastic
We are not doomed, but sheesh, if you listen to Wolf Blitzer, or Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity, you'd think that the people supporting Jack Murtha and Steny Hoyer were like the Gangs of New York.

It's not the "Dead Rabbits" versus the "True Blues", or the Corleones versus the Bardzini's.

However, to steal a great line from the movie "Gangs of New York"

95% of Americans don't give a "two-penny fuck" who the House Majority Leader is.

14. They're desperate to push the war out of the news.
On the BBC it's very clear that US troops hunker down in bases while civil war rages around them. We control the bases and about 10 feet past the base fence and that's it. Nothing else.

The rest of Iraq is lost to some dystopian nightmare.

15. I agree. DU'ers should take a week off from Cable News.
Honestly, ya'll, nobody watches that stuff anyway. I bet if you asked the average Man On The Street -- even a reasonably educated Man on The Street voter -- they would go, "Who? What?"

16. It's spelled "dysfunctional"
Thanks for fucking up the House and Senate majorities maxrandb, you subversive mole!

Do I have to say it, or can you tell this is :sarcasm:?

The point is well taken; just because the Democrats kicked the living snot out of the Republicans on election day, that doesn't suddenly transform a hostile media into our best friends, and they're going to be trying to undermine Democratic confidence at every turn.

Actually, I spelled it the midwestern way. See, I've learned a lot from watching the Repukes. Never admit that you were wrong.
