Murtha's being swiftboated, MSNBC just debunked smear
by
Wed Nov 15, 2006 at 11:47:27 AM PST

I was just watching MSNBC telling the story about Murtha's line about ethics reform being "total crap." Well, apparently this is just a pathetic Faux News style soundbyte trick. A reporter there, Flavia (something) contacted Murtha's office and got the real deal.
Murtha did not call ethics reform or the bill total crap!!!!!!

I don't recall the exact words, but the quote started out, "It's total crap we need ethics reform in the first place." Murtha's meaning was that he felt people should have ethics already, without a bill demanding it.

Whomever floated this story better step up and clarify their side. Small wonder it was the corperate wing of the Democratic party that's pulling this shit. This is why I can't stand the DLC types (Sorry Wmtriallawyer). They never got after the Rethugs like they go after their own.

Murtha's going to be on Hardball in a little bit, I'll update then.

Glad to see her re-emerging as a spokesperson. She's good at what she does.

7. You might want to have a look...
at the ABSCAM video, instead of making assumptions. You can find a link to it http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2725397">here.

15. Are you rooting for Hoyer? Until I hear more about him, I'll hold judgment regarding a
TWENTY-SIX year old FBI entrapment video in the time when Reagan's governing hurt Murtha's constituents hard.

A HuffPo member kind of explains it as follows

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-hilda-l-solis/jack-murtha-for-majority-_b_34158.html

"Abscam was 26!!!! 26 years ago and Murtha was NOT!!!!!!!!!!! never!!!! NOT!!! indicted. The 1 and only....the lone conressional rep to not fall for the bribe (it was an entrapment case by the FBI and he didn't fall for it).

Yes, he did say invest the money in his district, at the time his district under Reagan was suffering 20%!!!!!!!!!!! 20% Unemployment!!!!!! his district needed jobs and desperatly so

While sitting on Appropriations comittee, YES Murtha's brother did LOBBY for a company that recieved a 20 million dollar government contract. Every year the Apropriations comittee oversees Billions upon billions upon billions of dollars worth of contracts...20 million is piss ant and if Murth was trying to stear money to his brother he would have done it in a larger amount and directly to his brother not a company his brother lobbied for out of the hundreds of companies that Murtha's brother lobbies for.

Sloan at CREW is not admiting her bias....Sloan has strong ties with AIPAC. Hoyer is AIPAC's whore in the house. Sloan needs to be intelectualy honest and admit her bias

Anyway; Murtha for majority leader because he scares to piss out of bush and the "stay the course" people
By: jimmyboyo"

And he's right. Murtha can scare the piss outta Bush! :-)

19. Not at all...
in fact, I'm pretty uncomfortable with anyone who doesn't seem to share Nancy Pelosi's commitment to getting out of Iraq. We need unity on this issue; it is a major reason we're in control of Congress (or will be when the 110th Congress is seated), according to exit polls.

17. I think we got our wires crossed...
I'm not arguing against Murtha being smeared. I'm arguing that there is quite a bit of mud-flinging going on, and I've seen some posts here that said, "Murtha was investigated in ABSCAM!!!11!! He's durty!" which IMHO is just more smearing, particularly considering what actually happened when they tried to get him to take a bribe; those agents looked like real fools. IMHO, Murtha knows where the line is, and takes the trouble to make sure he's standing on the right side of it. He also makes it clear that in his opinion, it is his DUTY to represent his constituents' desires and interests, not his own.

14. I read the data on the CREW site.
Some is factual; but it appears that there is some that is not. While I don't argue with their basic idea, I am suspicious of unsourced material, especially when it is directly contradicted by fully sourced material; i.e., "ethics legislation is crap" vs. "I think the fact that legislation is needed to enforce ethics is crap."

I'd like to know quite a bit more about CREW, particularly considering that they do not indicate direct sources in their articles, and particularly considering that they appear to have printed something that is directly contradicted by publically sourced material.

16. That second quote is not one I want to hear, either
When my party has ran on accountability and the one issuing the statement has at best has danced the ethical line.

CREW is run by Democrat who used to work for Conyers and I think Biden.

It is not as partisan as say Media Matters but was set up as a liberal equivalent to Judicial Watch.

18. Are you entirely certain that you want to...
state that members of the US Congress should be the type of people who require legislation to prevent them from cheating? I think I'd rather have ones that avoid it because of their ethical beliefs. And that's what that second quote was about, IMHO.

20. I saw it as rationalization.
Yes it is sad that these rules seem to be needed.

And I think these are ethical rules that our members should be abiding by.

Murtha has basically gotten away with stuff because its seen as SOP. Well with these rules the SOP stops.

24. Lou Dobbs cleared up the 'crap' flap then Tucker came on and misquoted all over again.
This is BULLSHIT reporting.

RIGHT AFTER Murtha cleared up his 'quote' by telling Tweety that what he meant was that is was crap that they had to be dealing with corruption with all the world problems we face, Fucker Carlson came on, leading off his show, saying that Murtha said that the ethics probe is crap. Total horseshit.
