This war is now longer than World War II |
|
I remember hearing the other day that as of that day, the war in Iraq had lasted as long as the period of time between Pearl Harbor and V-J day. Which means that now, this war has lasted longer than WWII (at least the US involvement). Let that sink in a minute. I believe at this point, the only conflict that's lasted longer might be the Vietnam War.

1. "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks...." |

"...I doubt six months." --Donald Rumsfeld, lying pig.

3. Actually, I think we still have about 12 days to go, |
|
but your point is a good one, anyway.
December 7, 1941-August 15, 1945 = 1347 days (24+365+365+366+227) March 21, 2003-November 15, 2006 = 1335 days (285+366+365+319)

5. Revolution, 1775-1783. |
|
Vietnam is a little fuzzy since there was no specific starting date and it sort of trailed off from 73-75.
Still for this quagmire to be longer than WWII is pretty sobering. Shock and awe!
Of course technically it is an occupation, not a war. Wars are fought between nation states. That does not change the fighting or the suffering, of course.

6. WWII for Americans. Not longer than WWII for the Brits, Europeans, Canada |
|
Australia and many other places. WWII is still longer for these places.
But there has been no national sacrifice so you cannot compare it. Only a very few do the sacrificing for this WAr. Oh and all the people who will have to pay for it in the USA...in the generations to come. People in the USA will pay either with higher taxes or no health care reform and the like.
