For the Fighters
i knew that i was dying.
something in me said, go ahead, die, sleep, become
them, accept.
then something else in me said, no, save the tiniest
bit.
it needn't be much, just a spark.
a spark can set a whole forest on
fire.
just a spark.
save it.

- Charles Bukowski

2. The tumult and the shouting dies
"The tumult and the shouting dies;
The Captains and the Kings depart:
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!"

7. this is only the beginning
We were heard, and while some chose not to listen, they will just have to suffer the consequences. We CAN make a difference. Lets take notes which Dems betrayed us, and work against them when they're up for reelection.
The same goes for the so-called moderate repubs. I think we can afford to lose a couple of red state Dems, like Landrieu, both Nelsons, Johnson, etc. if we, in turn, gain the seats of some moderate repubs in blue states, such as Chafee, Snowe, Collins, Santorum, Specter, etc.

5. .

To dream the impossible dream.
To fight the unbeatable foe.
To bear with unbearable sorrow.
To run where the brave dare not go.

To right the unrightable wrong.
To love pure and chaste from afar.
To try when your arms are too weary.
To reach the unreachable star.

This is my quest.
To follow that star.
No matter how hopeless.
No matter how far.
To fight for the right,
Without question or pause.
To be willing to march into hell
For a heavenly cause.
And I know, if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful
And calm when I'm laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable stars.

Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 05:09 PM by IndyOp
While I am having the urge to kick some Dems and get the hell out of the US before it collapses - I have to force myself to think of people who know, far better than I what it means to fight:

I'll wait.

It's my fault the cloture vote failed. Me personally. I wrangled those SEVENTY TWO 'aye' votes all by myself.

All I had to do was say I didn't think it would work.

It's all on me.

29. Thanks for this post Will
I don't always agree with you but I know you will always fight, and always fight for the right side.

The people that will quit the party are contemptible.

They are turning their backs on Boxer, Dean, Conyers, McKinney, Kerry, Kennedy, Kucinich, Reid, Feingold, Skinner, Will Pitt, H2O, etc etc etc ... people who fight like hell and will NEVER give up.

16. The Guest House
THE GUEST HOUSE

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

- Rumi

Not sure how that applies here but it sounds profound (Ok maybe not)

I am pissed off.

I am irate that I emailed and called and faxed and didn't get anywhere but this isn't anything new--I know one thing I am not laying down and rolling over regardless of who or what is in the supreme court.

30. I'm still standing. I will NEVER surrender my country. We WILL Persevere!
This was one battle amongst others and there are still battles ahead that need to be... no MUST be fought.

Rant or rest of you will but never give in... never stop believing that a few people CAN and often DO make a huge difference. We already have, are and WILL. We will take back our country... Nov '06 is just around the corner and '08 will be here much faster then we think.

Think of all we HAVE accomplished. We've kicked some of our reps in the backside and today many of them stood up to the bullies and thugs. It may not seem like much since the filibuster failed but dammit it's a start. Many of our Dem Reps finally look like they're growing back their spines. We've acted like whipped puppies for too many years... enough is enough... let those who stood united know you're pleased that they have stood by you as a Dem.

Think of this also... after this is all said and done... the "hand" has been revealed... we now know for sure who stands for real democracy... back them and go after the rest.
