Only one way to put the Repubs and the corporate media on the defensive... |
|
Put forth a progressive agenda that will lock their bowels. After the minimum wage, repeal the taxcuts for the Big Oil companies. Then roll back Bush's taxcuts for the very wealthy. Pass an EITC for the very poor. Put forth a plan for national healthcare for every American. Give the President and ultimatum to have a plan before Congress in 60 days on what to do about the war in Iraq. Put them on their heels and keep them there. They love their money more than anything in the world.

1. Why not just do a little media trustbreaking? |
|
We're way overdue for it.

3. Roll-back the sections of the last several telecom bills |
|
that allowed big corporate media to concentrate in too few hands. Also, reinstate the fairness doctrine, and require the networks and cable companies to carry election ads without charge to the candidates.
That'll get their attention, and go a long way toward election reform, as well.

while they're discussing one issue, we can pass it and go on to the next. It will drive them insane.

11. Anyone Who Suggests Breaking Up the Media Corps Will Get the "Dean Scream" Treatment from the MSM |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 06:35 PM by AndyTiedye
Howard Dean proposed this during his Presidential campaign in 2004. The MSM utterly destroyed Dean's candidacy the very next day.

Can we fine HIM for every unfinished project in Iraq that was done by every Halliburton company or affiliate? Like half a mil for each?

Five of the six things you proposed are or are perceived as wealth redistribution through confiscation.
If you want to impact the bowels of the GOP, you need to take away the issues they win on, and don't forget that they still win races.
Slash welfare benefits for all but the truly unemployable by making it more attractive to go to or return to work and more attractive to hire people who need training and people who have some problems. Institute National Single Payer health insurance so that some of those people and a whole lot of middle class folks can strike out on their own in small business without risking the health and financial security of their families. Cut off illegal immigration and deport illegal aliens, so that those leaving the welfare roles will pick up the slack in that work. Build flexibility into welfare benefits so that accepting an iffy job or seasonal work won't make it so you have to re-type War And Peace to get a hand now and then.
Convert public housing to elder housing and workforce housing where appropriate, so that we don't have permanent poverty zones. Use rent subsidies and vouchers to get poor but able people away from poverty zones and out near where the jobs are.
Do all this with an eye on the bottom line, a businessman's understanding of human nature, and a plan to keep it from returning to the current state of embarrassment that the Democrats and liberals get blamed for and punished for in elections.
While we are keeping all these balls in the air, we can make sure that everyone is paying taxes so everyone is contributing to the success of the country, instead of donors and takers.
