Wise words from Thomas Jefferson for times such as these:
"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt. If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

From a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1798 after the passage of the Sedition Act

4. You're welcome. I read this quote daily to keep up my spirits.
I printed it out in large letters on an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper and taped it to the rear window of my truck's camper top.

3. Very nice. Thank you. But my rage at what just happened
persists. Knowing that there will be a brighter day, in a party purged of these invertebrates, gives me hope.

5. I too have hope. For one thing, I hope to get rid of my two GA senators
who are the biggest chickenhawk idiots outside of Sessions, Corynyn and Frist.

8. I can see some solace in that, but as a Wiccan...
I'm not thrilled to be associated with evil spells. That's not what Wiccans do. But I appreciate the post nonetheless. :)

11. We've got to have hope. We live in GA. What else do we have but hope?
I am just beyond sick with the Republican dirty tricks on the state and local level. The Repuke senators and DINOs are just too much. :(

18. I've been waiting for a better day for ages now...
Today I am tired. I have hoped. I have faxed. I have called. I have organized.

My patience is as thin as threadbare blanket.

21. Add to that some wise words from James Madison
“In Republics, the great danger is, that the majority may not sufficiently respect the rights of the minority”

"I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."

He has some good ones too...look them up sometime. One of my favorites that some of these pretend religious NeoCons should have shoved in their faces.

The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe with blood for centuries.

22. Thnak you for posting those important James Madison quotes.
Here's another from Jefferson on religion:

"History," Thomas Jefferson wrote, "furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes."

and a classic quote from H.L. Mencken:

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

H.L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)

23. This is a favorite quote too
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 06:40 PM by Greylyn58
but it's by a fictional character from a favorite scifi show Babylon 5:

G'Quon wrote, "There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain."

Citizen G'Kar

Right now, I'm holding fast to that one. :)
