What makes people so mean they would kill someone to
save $0.02 on their taxes? I have a hard time grasping this mind set. I was raised to value human life. I didn't mind paying for things like Social Security because I knew that one day I, too, would benefit. The same for other social services - it was an insurance policy in case I one day fell into dire straights and needed assistance.

Our world becomes pretty brutal and uncaring - and a lot of people die - when we stop caring about each other. Why is saving $0.02 on your taxes so important that you'd kill for it?

1. Huh? Who killed somebody over a 2-cent tax bill? I missed that one.

2. I live in a state with a lot of Republicans
The standard argument is that social services are too expensive. And they support the concept of having NO social services at all.

Let's be realistic. How much could the social services of one fellow American cost another when these costs are spread across the population? $0.02? Why is the small amount paid in taxes so important that people are willing to kill for it?

Taken in context, defense is a far bigger chunk of taxes paid, as is the deficit which they seem willing to explode for Bush's agenda.

I just don't understand the mindset.

3. Big business
These same common republicans who rale over social services say absolutely nothing about all the tax loopholes were people making millions end up paying no taxes. They also say nothing about all the money in tax breaks that are given to big business, tax money that does not go to pay for services they receive.

4. I think the most disgusting example of this I've seen
is the article I read about San Diego military families who were forced to stand in line at food banks. Why? The military used to receive food stamps - I well remember the program being expanded for strapped military families because I worked civil service at the time and knew a lot of military personnel. Guess who cut food stamps so military families no longer qualify?

Bush loves war, but the only people he makes sure get taken care of are his Halliburton type cronies.
