Either he was giving Bush a chance to heal the country as promised or he was depressed after a loss that even in 2000 looked like Florida had cheated. Kerry, came back to the Senate when it returned to session and has been as active and strong as possible. There is no reason to thrash either of them - they are good and honorable men.

No matter what happens, we have to stay politically active. A lot of Democrats let us down today, but that doesn't mean we have to give up. I'm proud to say that both of my Senators (Boxer and Feinstein) stood with Kerry and Kennedy and supported the filibuster. Nobody expected Feinstein to support the filibuster, but she heard from us! I volunteered at Planned Parenthood, urging pro-choice people to call Feinstein to urge her to oppose Alito. As we can see by some of the surprising "No" votes for Alito, and the supporters of the filibuster, activism works! It may not have been enough this time, and I am extremely concerned about what has happened to the Supreme Court, but that just means we need to keep doing what we are doing even more. Eventually, we will prevail. We just have to keep doing what we are doing and never give up!
