Once we give up, we admit defeat!

Did Clinton ever admit defeat? No!

We can do it. Maybe not now, maybe not in a week...

We are the Democratic party!

We are the strong.

We are the smart.

To give up is to admit defeat.

I will never admit defeat.

Don't stop looking towards the sun, don't stop hoping for a rainbow!

To give up is to give the neo-cons control of our country.

Not now, not ever.

To be a democrat... hell, to be an American.... is to believe what you believe in....

We have come far... maybe not as far as I or many others would hope, but it is a start.

Now is not the time to renounce your respect for the democratic party.

No. Not now.

Do NOT give up!

What if George Washington admitted defeat during the Revolution? What if Dr. Martin Luther King had given up during the Civil Rights Movement?

Now is not the time.

Do not give up.

1. Hate to tell you this...
...but Kerry did let the Swift Boaters eat his lunch. He completely underestimated the vitriol of Rove's machine.

29. Neither had a choice to continue contesting the election
Both have been strong advocates for America for years. Gore, disappeared for 18 months - this wasn't giving up. Either he was giving Bush a chance to heal the country as promised or he was depressed after a loss that even in 2000 looked like Florida had cheated. Kerry, came back to the Senate when it returned to session and has been as active and strong as possible. There is no reason to thrash either of them - they are good and honorable men.

And, I had a bad nightmare last night about what would happen if the thugs do succeed...

Bad things happen. Bad things have happened in other countries in recent past, in USA when Europeans took over, slavery, death, destruction. Bad things may happen here again because humanity as a whole hasn't learned yet. This doesn't mean I need to sit by and watch, but need to continue fighting. Glad you are with us old uppity people uppityminimandaruth

12. Thank you, MMR
That is exactly how I feel. Defeat is difficult, but losing a battle does not mean we have to lose the war. In that spirit, here's one of my favorite sayings: Failure is not falling down. Failure is falling down and not getting back up.

I'm definitely NOT giving up!

34. You fucking liberals and progressives
With your "beliefs" and your action. Fuck your moral activity, acting on behalf of the "better good" and especially the downtrodden. Fuck your desire for equality and fairness. Fuck your need to get back up and dust yourselves off when you should feel beaten and accept same. Fuck your activism and thirst for a better America.

Probably a direct quote from a rethug's reaction to this post.

That's what they're saying. That's what they think. What're you going to do about it?

For the record, that's 5 f-bombs in one post.

37. "hell, to be an American.... is to believe what you believe in...."
there was a guy that called into c-span this morning, in response to the question, 'what would you like to see bush say in his sotu speech', this clearly unstable individual said he wanted to see: kerry, kennedy, feinstein, cnn yada-yada adinfinitum...placed on the federal governments insurgent terrorist registry because THEY are the true terrorists destroying the 'american' way of life...look...

he clearly and most sincerely believed in what he believed in. there are many here that would defend his right to harbor his opinions. i...suppose that i am one of them.

but it is as well my belief that he and people like him must be shouted down. the other side shows up to win. we show up to debate.

there is no debate. whether they believe in what they believe; whether the level or the sincerity of their belief, it is time for them to go.

it is my further belief that there will be no excuses, whatsoever, for frittering away these final two elections 06 & 08 imo

39. Excellent post, and a very important message!
No matter what happens, we have to stay politically active. A lot of Democrats let us down today, but that doesn't mean we have to give up. I'm proud to say that both of my Senators (Boxer and Feinstein) stood with Kerry and Kennedy and supported the filibuster. Nobody expected Feinstein to support the filibuster, but she heard from us! I volunteered at Planned Parenthood, urging pro-choice people to call Feinstein to urge her to oppose Alito. As we can see by some of the surprising "No" votes for Alito, and the supporters of the filibuster, activism works! It may not have been enough this time, and I am extremely concerned about what has happened to the Supreme Court, but that just means we need to keep doing what we are doing even more. Eventually, we will prevail. We just have to keep doing what we are doing and never give up!
