Should Dems extend their work week in January?
I didn't realize rethugs set the work week hours when they held the majority but heard that on Tweety.
Since there is so much work to do, wouldn't it be productive to extend their hours, not to mention showing good intent to fix problems? There's so much to do and so little time; I hope they think about it.

1. For what they are paid
and the benefits they receive, they should AT LEAST work 5 days a week.
My thoughts are they should work more, but I at least expect that.

2. Yes, they should extend the work-week. We are trying to

change Congress back from "purely ceremonial" to it's true, powerful role.

Tweety said that they met on 69 days last year -- on only Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of each week with lots of weeks off apparently.

That's disgusting.

On Edit: I know that most of the work that gets done is not on the House or Senate floor and they must have time to be in their offices working. Still...

3. Absolutely!
I was stunned to hear how little time they spend doing "the people's work," and that the republicons determine the hours worked. I wonder how many people are aware of these facts.

4. Along the same lines--what about * 's working days?
Has anyone calculated the time that he spent presidentin' compared with the time and our money he spent campaigning for himself and others? Not that we're not better off without having him muck things up. but his whole presidency has just been an extended campaign.

5. Good point, and we're paying for his campaigning, or part of it.
That needs to stop imo.

6. Restore Pre '94 House Rules
Hastert set up the 3-day week to cover DeLay's ass. They thought he'd get cleared and eventually resume his pillaging, but in the meantime bottled up the House so nothing would get done while "the boss" wasn't around.

There needs to be a bunch of rule changes and revisions once we take control. While I wish the banish Repugnicans to the wilderness, I'd rather their policies and inept politicians do that, not procedural rules.

7. If they hit the ground running and WORK
it will send a positive signal that the Republicans will have a hard time diluting. And extending the work week is a newsworthy item... hint hint.

8. Eight Days a Week
is not enough to show the VP how much they care.

9. Absolutely! As I understand it, a lot of the members didn't want to move their
families to Wash, and since this was such a "Family Oriented" Congress, the Pubs set the work week at 3 days to give them the ability to travel home each weekend!

I say, if you wanted the damn job so bad, MOVE to Wash. or travel on Fri. night and Sun. night so you can be at work first thing Mon. AM!

11. Yes they should
When Americans are working hard some at multiple jobs just to keep their head above water the least the congress could do is work a forty hour week and limit their vacation to what average Americans get.
