Why is Moveon.org not getting any credit for the huge winnings of the Democrats?
I am a member of Moveon and we worked our asses off this election year. Moveon rented an office here in Virginia Beach and we held many get out the vote phone marathons there. One member, who posts here regularly, had a house party every weekend for 2 months before the election. She actually got more phone lines put in her house so she could hold the phone parties at home. Some French nationals came to her house on the last Sat. before the election and filmed us for a documentary they are doing on Moveon.

Overall, I think Moveon deserves some credit for this election. Maybe they do not want to be talked about though as it might become about them instead of the big WIN.

1. Because Emanual feels that Moveon is the "looney" left
and he will never credit them with anything.

3. The GOP managed to sully the name, ie "Michael Moore," "Liberal."
They use the name the same way..."He's a MoveOn liberal!" They've managed to convince a large segment of the population that MoveOn.org is second only to the ACLU (and the aforementioned filmmaker) in unadulterated evil godless commie-ness.

I think people are just afraid to link themselves to them, despite all the good they've done.

4. That's what I was thinking. Even Moveon is very careful about
who speak on their behalf. They do a lot of screening for spokespersons. Its a good thing as they do not want the debate to become about them and not the issues.

5. MoveOn has a PDF report posted on their homepage
of "Election 2006: People Powered Politics" -- Check out the MoveOn 2006 campaign wrap-up report—a brief look at the stories, pictures, and numbers that sum up how MoveOn members helped take back America.

http://www.moveon.org/

Keep in mind that MoveOn is *not* affiliated with the Democratic Party. Several Dems have mentioned the powerful impact of the 'netroots' -- and that includes MoveOn.

6. E.Z.
Because if you say anything good about them you will get
23 e mails a day from them, have to host a party for them,
and other things.

9. Seriously...
Not only that, I was doing GOTV phone calls from annoyed Democrats who had already been called severl times. Among the callers was MoveOn. The telephone can be an effective campaign tool because it's one-on-one and it's cheap -- but if you overuse it, voters will react negatively.

MoveOn needs to coordinate its effort with local campaigns, not run around re-inventing the wheel. I appreciate their enthusiasm and support, but sometimes it doesn't help.

15. You can't put the lack of coordination on MoveOn
There were so many organizations doing GOTV in key races i'm not sure it would be possible to get them all coordinated. I stopped doing MoveOn calls Sunday afternoon because everybody I was reaching was at the least irritated by the flood of calls they were getting.

16. No, I really can...
While candidates need to coordinate their efforts when there are overlapping districts, it even more incumbent on outsiders to not screw things up locally by blindly calling areas where they have no presence.

10. Something about contempt for "We the People"
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 09:28 AM by acmejack
He cares about Corporations not so much difference between the old guys and the new with him, just another powermonger.

"As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, Emanuel teamed with Senate campaign chair Chuck Schumer to tap uncharted donor fields in the financial industry. 'We're working outside of traditional banks,' he says proudly, 'into the private-equity world, the hedge-fund world, the distressed-debt world.' These 'worlds' know they are talking to a guy who not only runs the campaign committee, but who could be in the majority of the key financial committee—and maybe even majority leader."

13. They hate us.
We are a grass roots populist movement within the Democratic Party. We are the ghost of the McGovern kids of 72. They thought that they had fixed that problem and now we're back. We aren't going away and we don't care what they think of us.

We are going to fix our party and our nation and our planet and we are not going to be stopped by the beltway corporate asshats, no matter which party button they have on their fancy suits.
