SAFWAN, Iraq (Reuters) - British and U.S. forces mounted raids in southern Iraq on Friday, a day after four Americans and an Austrian were abducted when the civilian convoy they were guarding was hijacked, Iraqi security sources said.

Police in one town said they killed an American in civilian clothes and wounded another after they shot dead two policemen whose patrol pulled over their unmarked near Zubayr on Friday.
