Where do you fall on the Political Compass?
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 01:59 PM by leftupnorth
www.politicalcompass.org

If you've never seen this site or taken this test, K&R this for others that haven't.

I really like how they seperate social and economic ideology into different axes, it really helped me solidify my political ideology. I'm not saying this an end-all be-all, but it's a powerful tool to help foster political understanding.

1. I always end up just left of Ghandi.
Even with my death penalty stance.

25. ME TOO!
And I think the questions change some don't they.

No matter what, I always come more left and more libertarian than Ghandi.

We're in good company thought - Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama. And OPPOSITE Little Lord Pissypants.

I think there may be a substantial difference between how people plot themselves, and how people are plotted by third parties.

30. This has been true of DU for awhile.
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 03:25 PM by TahitiNut
Some DUers seem to call themselves 'centrists' or 'moderates' not because that's actually where their political preferences are, but that's a word that sounds good to them. It's a form of self-deception or self-denial, I think. While Kucinich is far, far closer to the philosoophy of the vast majority of DUers (and the country, imho), people - even DUers - are cajoled and deluded by the nicer haircut, the more erect strut, the more self-satisfied posture - even the media's embrace. Like it or not, folks climb on the more comfortable bandwagons. Even when it's not going where they want to go.

2 axes is better than one, but IMO it's still pretty inaccurate for characterizing people's politics. I have a feeling that Elton "Ban All Religion" John would probably score more social libertarian than me

Sounds about right. It's an interesting test; right now, it seems like the Libertarian Right & Left might have more in common than either does w/the Authoritarian branches of their respective ideologies.
