If they can overturn choice, it will be birth control next. They have people in the radical right who have been agitating for taking women's rights to vote and to work. Wait for education to be an issue. How close is that to medieval?

I feel so betrayed. And I'm scared for my little granddaughers.

1. i don't have grandaughters, but i have nieces and they will
eventually have children and for all the young women who will have to see the way it was before
R w W. i had an aunt who actually douched with ammonia -- it didn't work and fortunately the child was okay. but a woman who does not want to be pregnant will go to very far extremes.

2. Yep

It's time to get out the bumper sticker...."If you cut off my reproductive choice can I cut off yours?"

Betrayed again....what a surprise. :sarcasm:

Cheers

4. I am very worried about the future for my daughters.
And they have no idea - even the 18-year-old one - just what exactly they stand to lose.

5. I have parkinson's.
I can kiss any hope of seeing a cure good bye because they'll never pass stem cell research.
I am sure that they will giggle with glee the next time I fall. Hell I bet the culture of life crew can't wait to take away my disability benefits so i can be in paralyzed like state for the rest of my life. Gawd we were so close to a cure. My hatred for the religious right grows white hot today.

9. I have two young adult daughters
One is 19, one is 22.

I am scared shitless for their sakes. I remember what things were like in the late 1960s, when abortion was illegal. I remember taking up collections for women in my college so they could fly to Haiti for a procedure. I remember worrying that they might not survive.

10. I feel as if the opening credits for "The Handmaid's Tale" are rolling
by. When my daughter wraps her arms around me (she is almost 16) and says,,"Don't cry Mama...please don't cry..." I feel such a sense of helplessness.

13. OH, but according to some, we should be positive because this means VOTES
see, when RvW gets overturned, we'll get VOTES! Those magical, imaginary votes from the invisible center and moderates (who have yet to show up). So it's okay. Women are chattel, but WE HAVE VOTES BY GOD.

And please note that it is generally always men who tell women to "BE POSITIVE", and call abortion rights "wedge issues" and "somethign to give up for the long-term good of the party" and "be positive" blah blah blah.

fuck that. fuck men.

17. I'm deeply saddened....
So many supposedly pro-choice women just voted for cloture - I thought the whole argument for electing these women to the senate was because they'd actually represent the interests of women?

Yeah, there were lots of white men who just screwed us over, but it's the women who really hurt right now.

20. I guess there's only one thing to say to the women of America.
Invest in knitting needles. I am completely horrified at this confirmation, but in reality, it is just the top of the ice berg. Underneath the water is the hidden victories the right has already won - only one abortion provider in the whole of Mississippi, restrictions and pressure to make reproductive rights less and less available, even as they keep it legal, sort of, on paper. What difference does it make if Roe vs Wade is kept on the books if a woman can't get an abortion anyway?

It's enough to make a foreigner wonder what the women of America are thinking, that they don't fight for their rights - but the economic and propagandistic reality they live in has made the average women, and men, of America little more than slaves. They have no options to exercize their much vaunted freedom.

The United States of America is no longer a democratic republic. Most Americans are no longer free. It happened long before Alito, but it's something that will be in effect long after him. I honestly do not think "We, the People" will fight it.

One thing's for sure. We need to bring the wrath of God down on those who voted "yes", and the first thing we do? Cut off the money supply.
