Something occured to me on that PS3 rant. |

I didn't know there was a hysteria, or some mad rush too buy it. I hadn't seen an advert for it, and didn't know that people were camping out for a week to get one.
A few on that thread talked about how Madison Avenure has permeated our lives and we can't get past the yelling that advertisers push on us all the time.
I still listen to radio. I podcast my radio shows...no commercials. The only thing I hear is Al & Joe's "Wait, wait! Don't lie to me!" is brought to you by Select Comfort.
I still watch TV. I have a DVR. I skip the commercials. Nothing there. Instead of local news, and fluff, I get news off of HDNews, which repeats itself, commercial free, every 20 minutes or so.
I have popup blocker on my ISP. I don't think this is really new anymore.
I still go to stores, so if there's a line at Best Buy, I just drive past it, and go somewhere else.
I gues one can minimize the Madison noise if they wanted to, cause it's working on me.

I have seen 1 commerical for it, and I have seen "zero" about the games for it, nor regular gameplay or how much "better" the graphics are for the new system...
I remember for the Ps2 there was a ton...of hoopla, and gameplay shots of certain games, primarily Devil May Cry(which was an awesome game)...this time around...not much...minus 1 commerical, nada.

3. You can minimize it, but it's difficult... |

especially since everywhere you go from doctorss offices to the banks now have the 24/7 "news" media stations on. My downfall is that I do like to watch sporting events on the weekend, and am constantly pounded by the most ridiculous drivel imaginable. Apparently Madison Avenue has decided that American men are just one small step above Neanderthals.

This requires avoiding the phone from friends who are also watching the game.
Wat until the game comes on, then pause it on a DVR. Go annd make your snacks, get your beers, water the lawn, clean the toilet, yell at your son for not taking out the trash, etc. for about a half an hour. You have a half hour buffer to skip the commercials. Pause again to go to the bathroom, get more beer, etc. Your Mom calls, pause and talk to her. By the time you catch up to real time, skipping every commercial, the game will be almost over, and you'll see who won pretty much the same time everybody else does.:hi:

hadn't thought of that, but you're right, that's exactly what my 7 year old does with her shows, she even gets sick of all the garbage! :hi:

at three different locations. It's hysterically funny that parents would get involved with that rubbish to make their kids happy for Xmas. Let's hope it's just guys buying them to make a profit. This is capitalism gone mad.

I don't subscribe to cable, only have internet access at work, and listen to CD's in the car or NPR. I also like to read and interact with people on a more fundamental level. Ahhh, I really just don't give a poop about stuff these people are selling. I see no value in the vast majority of it.
On a related note, what is people's obsession with this ridiculously expensive jewelery? When my ex and I were thinking about getting married, I used to argue with her all the time about wedding rings.
I wanted to make her a simple band with my own hands as a symbol of my commitment. I would say, "For the money I would blow on a fancy diamond ring, we could extend our honeymoon and travel to parts of the world we'd probably never get the chance to see again. We would have memories which would last a lifetime, not just a fancy ring and trip to Jamaica."
"That would be nice," she'd say, "but I still want the diamond ring."
Thank goodness it didn't work out. :puke:

8. You are absolutely right... |

the diamond industry is probably the most ruthless, brutal and corrupt industries around, I have no interest in supporting it.
I've often wondered, do these rappers and sports stars that run around draped in huge rocks know what they are supporting and promoting?

9. I don't think anyone would support it if they learned what goes on. |

Of course that wouldn't stop them from rationalizing the moral dilemma away in a heartbeat. It seems no one cares until it affects them. Eh...
Anyway, thanks for the welcome! Cheers for a Friday!

You don't have to put up with hyper-advertizing, nor do you have to get pissed off about it.
