I have just asked for Senator Reid's resignation.
I sent this letter to him via his website. I suggest others do the same.

http://reid.senate.gov/email_form.cfm

Dear Senator Reid:

I am writing today to request your resignation as Senate Minority Leader. I can no longer sit back and allow you continually bow to the will of the opposing party. I am not from your state, but I am a Democrat. You are the leader of all Democrats in the Senate, therefore you are my representation in the Senate as much as you represent Democrats in your own state. You are supposed to be our leader, and as leader, you should know that an overwhelming majority of all Democrats in America were against this nomination. As our representative, you should have been able to impress upon the others in our party to truly act as our delegates and vote this nominee down. As a Democrat, I am very disappointed that you could not muster the support to oppose Sam Alito, an extremist conservative, as appointment to the highest court in the nation. I had hopes that you would be able to bring this party out of the lowly state we have been mired in over the last decade. As I see that your impotent attempts have brought us once again to be the laughing stock of the nation, I am requesting your formal resignation immediately.

Thank you for your time and service.

Sincerely,
Mr Obreaslan
NJ Democrat

1. I agree
Its time to cut our losses. He doesn't show enough leadership, seems too afraid, of what I don't know and don't want to.

12. Noooooo - Reid did not do his job
If he did, the dems on the judicial committee would
have been in sync. They would held Alito to real issues,
they would have given Mrs. Alito something to really cry about.

Reid should have been totally involved in the filibuster.

He let us down.

He did not LEAD. Kerry and Kennedy did his job.

20. He did not try ...he did not want this
he's a weak leader and his time has gone, I'm afraid. We need a bulldog, not a soft voiced passive aggressive who never really gets the job done.

3. We need a party leader from a Blue State. One that has
a bit of influence. One that can lead and fight. I like Reid, but he isn't the guy.

17. Durbin would be a wonderful senate Democratic leader
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 07:12 PM by Mass
and he was arguing for the filibuster while Reid was arguing against it, according to the media.

5. And the Dems will be the laughing stock of every
show of every pundit of every editorial - just see the emails Cafferty got today - No leadership; they will be made to look like fools everywhere you turn - and then the great moment when the "leader" of the nation gloats at his State of the Union, probably heh he he hehing about Alito, and make no mistake he will rub it in, will he ever.

Well, old Harry has lots of dry powder he can keep until his next total failure.

8. And I ask him, what good is dry powder that sits in storage unused?
If you are afraid to filibuster because the 'Publicans will pull the trigger "nuclear" option, then haven't they already pulled the trigger????

:grr:

10. Why is that?
Just because he personally voted the right way on Alito? You HAVE to do more than just that as Minority Leader. What the hell is the point of having Reid as Minority Leader if he's so impotent?

13. If a leader can't lead, what is the point?
It is his job to get everyone on the same page.

11. I don't blame him
He voted against cloture. The problem is that the Democratic party has no party unity. It's not a new thing, that's why we lost Congress in 1994.

14. Biden
I thought that I read some posts here yesterday on a Sunday talk show that Biden hinted that Reid may step down sometime in the next few months? I didn't see this myself and know the way rumors spread - sheesh like my own post here may be doing. Did anyone remember seeing this?

15. Whipping is hard when you're in the minority.
You can't threaten with chairmanships or legislation since you don't control the agenda. Although it may not look like it, the Democratic caucus is more united than ever and Harry Reid is doing a damn good job IMO.
