I no longer am affiliated with the Democratic Party.
Flame if you will, but my association with these wimps has come to an end. Kennedy and Kerry fought the good fight but too many others just want to be losers, imcpo. I won't give Democrats another cent, and will lift not one finger to help any of their campaigns. WHAT'S THE POINT? I may vote for a Dem, or I might write in my beloved dog's name. She could probably do a better job than these losers.

honestly i dont' know what i consider myself, so i can't necessarily 'leave' a party. i do see it seems more true everyday that the difference between Repubs and Democrats is dwindling.

Still love Kerry though, and of course those who stood up today.

7. Not enough stood up. That's the problem.
I've hoped, worked, and fought for 5 f'n years to see them do the right thing. I now consider the party as a whole to be hopeless. It's the sad, but inevitable conclusion I have reached.

A very big and long lasting one because enough elected dems didn't do their duty. Seems like they benefit either way.

4. Don't forget local politics which can still have
a big impact on your real life day to day. But beyond that-I agree with you basically have for some time. There really is no point. They have no power-they don't want to use any power they might have-and the Republicans are so corrupt or so blind that they way out of this mess for this country is going to come from voting. It's going to be a little messier than that. I just hope it doesn't take 60 years like the Soviet Union.

Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 07:05 PM by Generator
Really when I came here I thought it was about Democratic ideals. I'm waiting for Skinner to wake up and smell the coffee. I adore and worship the free speech and the comradeship-but the Democratic party doesn't exist as a viable way to get a damn thing. If you think it does-please tell me what we have achieved since the nightmare happened? Hillary 2008!

That's our answer. No, our answer to tell the truth about what is happening in our country not live in a dream world where loyalty to a party that no longer represents you is considered a viable means to an end.

I hope it remains true that Independents are allowed. I certainly plan on continuing the way I have but do not feel I can remain a part of this party in name after today.

I wish I had something optimisitc to say to you after you pumped me up the other day but maybe the time will still come, just not today. for you and your daughter, I have thought a lot about her since you wrote about her the other day. All our daughters.

34. Muse, that means a lot to me. Thank you.
I don't feel as alone as I did watching my computer screen three hours ago. My daughter came up to me as those Aye votes came in and said,"Don't cry Mama...please don't cry..." and it killed me. I had to leave the room.

On an upside, my daughter can vote next presidential. That's one more to the good.

To our daughters Muse! :toast: And to you!

40. I was at the farm
working my frustration out knowing that Randi would announce the votes as they came in. I was all alone and had myself a good old fashioned cry. I have always been so proud to be a Democrat, my truck is a testament to Democratic ideals. BUT, I feel that there is now no other way to make a statement and I can still do the good work of a strong progressive from outside the party.

I experienced life before Roe V Wade and it was very ugly. I remember "Whites Only" signs. I remember the days when we would have to wait and carry our wheelchair bound classmates over the steps to get into the classroom buildings. I remember when my GLBT friends would only tell a few of us their real stories for fear of being totally ostracized (that is only a little different for many of them even now). I can't be a part of a party that would allow a vote for someone who seems to think that those things are OK or belonged to a group that talked about keeping those groups of people out of higher education. That does not even deal with the ideology of the unitary executive.

Just blowing off a little steam here, sorry.

Sisterhood my dear dear Mrs. Grumpy will become even stronger as we see the attitudes continue to change. We will take care of each other. Maybe we need a womans party? That would drive them all over the edge. again.

I'm not holding my breath. This is just one too many losses for me to stomach. I don't understand what is wrong with this party. But today proved to me it's not just black box voting. Our elected representatives are either bought off, or are addicted to losing. Either way, I'm outta here.

All we can do is rebuild it. I want something new, too. But that's because they changed our party. Let's change it back. It's a lot easier than starting over with a new one. Especially in a political system that addresses two parties.

27. "WHAT'S THE POINT?"
That's the same thing many people were saying in 2000 when they decided to vote third party. Flash forward to 2005 and you have a couple thousand dead soldiers, two conservative supreme court appointments, a mediocre economy, Katrina etc.

All things that wouldn't be taking place if we had a dem president and dem majorities in the senate and congress.

What's the point? It could get a lot worse if you let it. I won't. I will always work for a dem president and dem majorities.

46. Democratic Underground is not a Democratic Party organ
It never has been and it never will be. It is for progressives tout court, and has always been that way. I am a proud independent. I have never, ever been affiliated with the Democratic Party (hell, I distrust the fascism inherent in the Party Loyalist of ANY stripe). You don't get to police this space as some Democratic Party apparatchik, or some street corner Commisar, whispering condemnations to the secret police. Just who the fuck do you think you are?

39. I understand how you feel
If any candidate wants my support they have to merit my support. That isn't done by simply being a member of a party in name only.

I've supported and voted for independents before and will again. If they're the best choice in my eyes they'll be the one getting my vote.

The thing is I will also support any Democrat that has earned my support.

For an example I will be voting for a Democratic candidate as Texas's next governor. The two independents are not worthy of my support (one is a republican running from a costly primary and the other is an idiot) and one of the democratic candidates I like a lot the other better than either of the two independents.
