A blessing in disguise?
The cloture vote was disappointing, the Democratic defectors infuriating, but we should be proud of how hard we tried. We were organized, focused, united, committed. We zeroed in like a laser on the work to be done and did it. There was some fierce determination here at DU and I`m mighty proud of it.

This could be a blessing in disguise. Maybe...just maybe...this one experience will, once and for all, separate the activist momentum from the go-along-Joementum and set us on the course for real change in our party.

Feel defeated? Don`t. Nobody defeated US. We didn`t make any backroom deals. We didn`t look at the doctrine of unitary executive or a woman`s right to choose and find them so insignificant that we just sided with the Repupublicans and called it good. No,the defeat was brought on by some Democratic leaders in Washington who have truly lost their way. Sooner or later, these "leaders" will ask for campaign contributions. They`ll want us to be on their mailing lists. They`ll contact us with one of those send-this-to-all-your-friends emails. JUST SAY NO. No more mediocrity. No more gutlessness. No more free rides.

This could be a defining moment for Democrats who really want to be Democrats. Take a stand from this day forward....Our leaders either stand firm for core Democratic principles or we`ll find others who will.

3. No.
This spring I'm purchasing a back door (most likely Nova Scotia). I will move there when certain rights fall when they reach the courts.

4. The Guest House
I'm leaning heavily on Rumi's wisdome today...

THE GUEST HOUSE

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

-Rumi

We have learned much from this fiasco.

8. We are definitely getting much better as a reckoning force.
Of course, this country's path is on a pretty frightening path.

This fight,...this "war" in which we are engaged is going to be a long one, with corporacratic dictators on one side and us on the other. It's the fight for the people we must focus on,...not the uncertain future. The better we focus on the process of fighting FOR US, the people, the more effective we will become.

I am quite proud of how we pulled together our resources so quickly.

11. Tell that to the women who will die or be in jail
because of botched, criminal abortions.

"Blessing," my ass. The Dems had their chance, and these DINOs blew it. What makes you think they'll even go along if we one day regain control of Congress? Not likely.

16. renaissanceguy...
Believe me. I`m as agitated as anyone over this. Alito will be a disaster on the Supreme Court.

The "blessing" I referred to was the DU unity solidified by this very disaster. As disappointed as I am, I`m deeply proud of our collective efforts. If we hang on to this, we can do something.

14. I have a very frightning feeling that we're too late.
Only the inevitable coming depression can "save" us now.

We lost this fight, and while I will not stop fighting, we lost.

18. It's never too late,...
,...for change.

MLK took a stand for change during a period which certainly appeared "too late" to many people. As his inspiration rippled across this continent, around the world, change happened. His inspiration touches us to this day and always will common men and women and children.

I think many of us (not necessarily us DUers but rather us Americans) sort of took for granted that, this nation would progress without our sacrifice; and we are discovering that, we can't ever take such things for granted.

But, it is NEVER too late. Ever.
