Taser sues Ohio medical examiner
Akron Beacon Journal

On the heals of the Tasering of a student at UCLA comes this:

Taser sues Summit medical examiner
Stun-gun maker's suit challenges Kohler's rulings linking weapons to deaths of two Akron-area men
By Phil Trexler
Beacon Journal staff writer

The makers of the controversial Taser guns have filed a lawsuit against the Summit County medical examiner, challenging her rulings that have linked the weapon to two area deaths.

(snip)

Taser International Inc. lawyers claim in their suit that Medical Examiner Lisa Kohler lacks the expertise to connect its weapon to the 2005 deaths of Dennis Hyde, 30, and Richard Holcomb, 18, both of Akron.

In each case, Kohler listed a police officer's use of the Taser as a contributing factor in the death.

(snip)

The Arizona Republic newspaper has reported that Tasers have been used in more than 140 incidents between 1999 and 2004 in which someone died. The newspaper cited 17 cases in which Tasers either played a role in the death or could not be eliminated as a cause of death.

2. .
To be fair, at the age of 18 and 30, it could have been a natural death as well.

5. To be fair, she said it was a FACTOR in the deaths,
not the whole cause.

And to be fair, she had access to a lot more evidence than we do.
