SHUT UP AND SING
Just got back from seeing the Dixie Chicks movie. It is great!! Natalie Maines is a true American hero. She has never backed down and refuses to apologize for what she said.

Go see this movie!

Natalie says that the radio station boycott was pushed by free republic. And there are scenes of freepers protesting at a Dixie Chicks concert.

The funniest part is when Natalie wears her F U T K shirt.

Go see the movie and buy the CD. Their concert tour really was hit hard by all this controversy and the girls need our support. And it is a great film!

1. How Much Of The Proceeds Are Being Donated Or Used For Liberal Purposes?
Edited on Sat Nov-18-06 11:38 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
If none of it, than I don't much consider her a hero. I do respect the hell out of them for taking the stand like they did though, like any of us would have, even though I'm not truly a fan of their music. I just think saying what they said, though brave, was something any of us would've said if in a similar position. I would far more support the 'hero' type meme if I saw evidence that they were spending large sums of money on Democratic and Humanitarian causes. I'm not sure if they are or not though.

2. The Dixie Chicks didn't make the film.
Academy award-winning documentarian Barbara Kopple made the film. Her best known work is "Harlan County, U.S.A.," which was about a bitter Kentucky coal mine strike. Kopple is liberal to the core.

And I don't know--or care--if she's donating the proceeds. Why should she? Really, why on earth should she? My guess is that she's doing what almost every documentary film maker does: take the proceeds from their current work to finance future projects. And based on Kopple's previous efforts, I think that's a great "cause."

7. She is doing a great public service by telling this story
I could give a rat's ass what she is doing with the proceeds.

4. And if you're concerned about whether the Chicks are into good causes....
Take a trip over to their website and see for yourself. They're very active in the organization Conservation International, and have made their current tour carbon neutral.

6. The Red Cross refused their donation
She is a hero for standing up for free speech. It took tremendous courage for her to refuse to back down. She is inspirational.

10. For Real?
How the hell can the Red Cross refuse a donation? That has to be the most foolish thing I've ever heard.

13. It was a MILLION DOLLAR donation too.
The American Red Cross is a reactionary organization, not like the International Red Cross. Remember Liddy Dole is a former president.

5. And go see the Dixie Chicks in concert
I went yesterday and they were great. I saw the movie today. I'm so angry that the RW radio stations and free republic collaborated to spuelch free speech about the war. We all wonder why the media is so compliant. What happened to the Dixie Chicks illustrates what happens when stars speak out. The DC need our support.

12. I was't a fan until
the damn wingnuts made a federal case out of Natalie's right to free speech. I bought the CD and will try to listen. I'm hard of hearing but, I bought it anyway. Solidarity, ya know. ;) Just because I can't enjoy it fully other people can. I'll make my husband tell me the words or I'll google them.

14. They definitely have one new fan...
My 15 yr old would automatically change the car radio channel whenever I had it on a country channel...after we went to the documentary/movie last week, **she** asked if we could buy the CD and now always has it BLARING while she gets ready each morning as she sings along with it.. she's asked if we could have a copy for the car and for home! They definitely are reaching a new audience with the release of both the movie and the CD.

17. My 16 year old borrowed my CD after she saw the movie
She played it all night and kept replaying the "not ready to make nice" song. Before the movie, she complained whenever I listened to them now she tells me she has always liked them.
