Democrats To Push Legislation To Make Fraudulent Election "Robo-Calls" A Crime
Click here for the whole story.

<snip>

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D0NY) said he and Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) are looking at a host of deceptive practices.

Among those that were practiced in the 2006 election cycle were robo-calls in New Jersey and elsewhere that were designed to sound as if they came from the Democratic candidate. If a voter hung up the phone, the robo-call would redial again and again. If the caller stayed on the line, the message went from positive sounding for the Democrat to negative.

In other examples, the calls peddled disinformation -- such as the location of a polling place. Criticizing the robo-call dirty tricks, Schumer was blunt. "It's despicable" and the perpetrators "should go to jail for 10 years."

1. Really Good Approach

No way to get law enforcement involved if it's not a crime. The law just has to be broad enough to cover all the variations that Republicans come up with. Including suppressing registration.

2. absolutely
as rachel maddow would say, this is "low hanging fruit" -- mainstream legislation that should have broad support, and if the Republicans filibuster, they look like crooks and schnooks.

3. It's already illegal in several states. When the DNC complained,
the practicewas stoppped. I don't think I heard what the penalties are, and I don't recall what States. I think one of them was Indiana.

The perps already have broken the law becauseall robo calls must state FIRST who it is and who is paying for the call. The ones that were made in this past campaign only said that at the very end of the call.

Making it a crime on the Fed. levelshould stop it everywhere, and that's a good thing. I just hope the Dems are persuing investigations on the ones that have already been made in 06.

4. I so glad that Dems are hitting back hard on this....
Damn right they should go to jail for 10 years. Say hello to Laura Ingraham (election tampering) and Anne Coulter (fraudulent voting) for us when you get to jail.

5. Ahh, just fight it at election time
The government already has too much to enforce.

Then we waste time trying to prove it.

Just go against it directly and publicize the misinformation. Make them look like jerks for trying to do it.

11. that doesn't work
Because you allow the disinformation to get out there -- usually in the days right before the election -- and by the time the disinformation has been publicized, the election is over.

In the NJ and VA examples this go around, for example, people were hearing about how bad things were the day of the election. by that time, it's pretty much too late.

6. also deliberate lies and threats should be considered crimes
when organized by operatives such as what happened in VA and MD and of course e-vote hacking etc.

BECAUSE: !!!!
Election fraud has led to the murder of hundreds of thousands of people throughout our world via this ruthless regime. WE need to demand accountability http://www.usalone.com/impeachment_investigation.php
We have a right and need to know the truth.

9. 10 years in prison is a START
plus the party or organization that funded the bastards needs a hefty fine. Half a million is a good place to start, enough that they'll notice the bite.

Here in NM the calls masqueraded as the state Elections Board and directed voters to new polling places 10 or 15 miles away from the real one. I think that might have made the difference in giving Wilson (R-COW) her 800 vote landslide.

Two years from now, we'll see tactics even more vicious from that neocon harpy and her flunkies. We have to have legislation in place to deal with that sort of election fraud.

Are people ready to use the "R" word yet?

Racketeering.
