Bush draws a line in the sand and asks for $127 billion more for his war... |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 12:27 PM by kentuck
Out of touch and not seeming to understand that there was an election a couple of weeks ago, Mr Bush plans on asking for $127 billion more to fight the war in Iraq. He wants one last push, one last chance, to bring democracy to this fiasco and debacle that he created. He's still playing politics. Democrats should ask for an accounting of how it will be spent? They should ask Mr Bush how he plans on paying for it? This is an opportunity for the Democrats to hold Mr Bush's feet to the fire. And well they should...

As predicted, this is Bush's primary means of forcing Democrats to sign on to his war. Each check you write to cover him digs you deeper into his corner and makes it harder for you turn around later and make him get out, and also harder to claim that you tried to make him get out.
We'll all be watching you, Hill Democrats.

3. Kucinich is going to introduce a measure |

in the new Congress to cut off funding. We need to ensure that there is massive and very vocal support for this so that our new Democratic majority and the repukes make no mistake about where the American people stand on this criminal war and occupation (if the election results weren't enough to send this message).

Let us get out of Iraq, and concentrate on restoring freedom and democracy to the United States. Restore Habeas Corpus, stop illegal spying, stop torture, have fair and public trials, all of those kinds of things we used to be known for. Bush is trying to give Iraq the freedoms we used to have, before Bush took them away to fight his Terra war. As far as the money, what we've been pouring into death, destruction, and Halliburton's bottom line, we can use to do things like rebuild New Orleans, something that will benefit our own citizens.

5. The playing field has changed now... |

In the past they've pushed through these emergency appropriations and anyone who voted against them were labeled as bacically traitors who didn't support the troops. Now we have leverage and more importantly visibility to show America that Bush just wants to keep pouring money into a losing and disgraced war. Some investigations into the "no-bid" contracts and reinstating the oversight committees will also fuel the fire.
IMHO pushing for a complete funding cut-off would be political suicide and provide fuel to the 'cons propoganda machine. We have control of the congress but we have no control of *'s foreign policy. As painful as it will be we have to let him and the 'cons hang themselves with Iraq. Cutting off funding/forcing an immediate pullout in Iraq just gives them an easy out and the ability to put all the blame for their Iraq mess on us in '08.
