My thoughts on what happened...
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 07:36 PM by Nutmegger
I took a walk which lasted about a half-hour. It felt good to get some fresh air and release some energy. I started thinking about the future, I'm scared. I'm scared that Alito will be supporting and enabling Bush Inc's domestic spying crap. I fear that one day those Democrats who voted for cloture will regret their decision when they see how disastrous Alito will be. The one time we need to be united, the Dems fall like a house of cards. Is it too "political"? Too hot to touch perhaps? Well I don't give a damn; this is American and here we fight for what's right! Needless to say, those Dems who voted to allow this nominee to be steam-rolled through will be personally hearing from me. When Alito rubber-stamps the dangerous policies of Bush Inc, I will be faxing each of them a copy with a note of my own reminding them of this day. I will be hawking those Dems until they are replaced by strong leaders, people we can follow. I will continue to fight until I'm no longer here. These bastards haven't heard to last of us!

I was always disappointed at the handling of Ohio in '04. Not because I thought Kerry was weak but because the stakes have never been higher. Regardless if Kerry was doing this to "play his base" - he made it up in my book and stood up when no one else would. When I heard Kennedy, I felt proud that he represents what I believe in and my values. Thank you Senator Kennedy and Kerry. I stand with both of you.

I was always luke-warm about LIEberman because he has a seventy-something percent score at Progressive Punch and has been with us on AWAR and the "Patriot" Act but this is unacceptable. I will never, ever support LIEberman and will work my damnest to see that he is ousted. I've tried time and time again to stay calm about Holy Joe but this is too much. We failed when we had the chance to stop Alito...and I fear that everybody will regret what they have done. This is something we could have and should have won, we didn't have to divide.

On the flip-side, I'm so happy that we were able to unite and stand for what we believe in. I have met a lot of great folks here at DU and can't imagine how I lasted so long without it. All of us bonded together and fought and at the end of the day, this is what is most important. Thank you.

Being a college student, I often get lumped into the "apathetic" crowd (and from what I've seen on campus, for the most part that's true). But I am more than thrilled to stand up with all of you and join in this fight.

Thanks to the Young Turks for excellent coverage, I haven't stopped watching since Thursday. Thanks to Thom Hartman, Mike Malloy, Peter B. Collins, Brad Friedman. Thanks to all of the 25 24 Democrats and Jeffords who stood up (some with force). We all did a good job.

1. I'm ready for the next fight
Kudos to the 24 Dems and 1 Ind. At least we're getting organized.
