Republican Congressman Single-Handedly Prevents Anti-Cockfighting Legislation From Becoming Law
Congratulations to Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) for being this week's winner of "Most Selfish Politician."

Click here for more on this story.

<snip>

The bill would make it a federal felony to transport cocks and dogs across state lines for the purpose of setting up fights, and possibly slow a sport that has an estimated 100,000 animals fighting each year. Even in these days of partisan bickering, this is one bill that should easily become law.

But it won't, because Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) says no.

18. I've hated that bastard ever since some hearing where he refused
to even recognize the presence of Sheila Jackscon Lee - that was the same hearing where he abruptly called the hearing to a close, and cut the microphones, even though people were still testifying. Can't remember the subject at hand, but he turned my stomach. What a jerk.

And now he stands in the way of banning this cruel and inhumane "sport." Fuck him. These fatass repukes don't give one damn about the spilling of blood, human or otherwise, as long as its not their gang, or their pets.

This asshole makes my blood boil. How the hell could anyone vote for that pig?

4. Poor Tex
He won't get to play big man much longer. I hope he's stocked up on plenty of the family product. He'll need it when he's crying his eyes out cause that mean John Conyers took his job.

19. he said it was a local problem, not for the fbi or congress
but even the fbi disagrees with him. in the linked article, it says that the fbi often finds organized crime and illegal gambling rings via cockfighting or dogfighting.

12. Have no idea but in the bulk of Louisiana a cockfight on Friday night

is thought of no different than going to the movies.

15. It's already illegal in 48 states.
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 07:57 PM by casus belli
This law just makes it a federal offense to transport them for said purpose.

16. It is legal in Louisiana

A couple of towns have passed local ordinances against it, but that's it.

17. yeah, every other house has those little bitty
houses for their fighters. I have seen some cock fights back in my wilder days, and they're not pleasant. bunch of half-drunk red-necks jumping around, hollering and betting in a frenzy.

20. right
the problem is illegal animal fighting, illegal transport of animals, often stolen animals to produce for these fights.

there are a lot of related laws that this would help enforce.
