The whole idea of a War on Christmas |
|
is a major pile of Bullshit!! And the Neocons who espouse this idea are also full of the same substance.
They bellow loudly about boycotting stores who will not wish you "Merry Christmas", how "Christmas displays are not to be called Holiday Displays", and all that rot.
Christmas has nothing whatsoever to do with how many gifts you buy, how many lights you have on your house, or what a sales clerk says in any given store.
I am not a particularly "religious" person, but have my own private ideas about the spiritual aspects of life. However, the concept of Jesus Christ is, in my mind, a positive one. Not the Jesus of the Fundies, who is seen as some sort of Rambo-like warrior who hates all those the Fundies hate, but the one who put forth the concepts of love, charity, empathy and help for those less fortunate.
The following of Christianity is, and should be,a very personal journey, and, as I stated earlier, has nothing whatsoever to do with the horrible commercialization that represents it now to so many.
Just felt like getting this off my chest, so pardon my

1. But good Christian Republicans support the robust economy |
|
especially at Christmas. Jesus would disapprove if they did not.
:sarcasm: (sort of)

2. It's just a case of stupidly rabid fundies expecting to go |
|
through life pretending that the rest of us simply don't exist.

NO sarcasm intended. (Of course we are at war with their concept of Christmas. Let the games begin)

5. not entirely. before anyone started talking about the war on christmas, |
|
i had noticed that tv stations wished 'happy chanukah,' 'happy solstice' and 'happy kwanzaa' but avoided the words 'merry christmas.'
if they'd just said 'happy holidays' for the entire month of december, i doubt i'd have noticed but they singled out every other holiday except christmas for mention.

9. You've got to be kidding me... |
|
Happy Solstice? Don't know too many folks that celebrate solstice except pagans, witches and druids, and to most of them the holiday is known as Yule.

6. Not looking forward to |
|
another Christmas where the checkout counter at the local stores means listening to someone's merry christmas/holidays rant. Last year I just quit shopping - it was disgusting.

10. I never found the phrase "merry Christmas" particularly offensive |
|
until the far right media started this "war".
Your post reminded me of the end of Dr Suess's The Grinch!

12. You're correct in your assumption |
|
that Fundie Jesus™ contradicts the Jesus that Christians know from the Bible; the one who talked about the meek inheriting the earth and turning the other cheek. I
About the whole "War on X-mas ("x-mas", btw, isn't Xing out the Christ-the greek letter chi (X) originally stood for Christ in the early days of Christianity)" bullhonkey, I just like to play along sarcastically...yeah, I'm a big bad liburul who's gonna shoot down your nativity scene :sarcasm:
