Wow... I Forgot About 'The Daily Bruin' (UCLA) - Article & Slideshow Here:
Online Exclusive: UCLA community gathers to protest Taser incident, campus violence
Protesters demand additional investigation be made into officers' actions by an outside organization with help of students

Meyerhoff Park was electric Friday afternoon when more than 400 students, faculty, staff, parents and community members gathered to protest the use of a Taser multiple times on a UCLA student in Powell Library on Tuesday night.

Student leaders stood on the steps of Kerckhoff Hall, leading the crowd in chants that included "One, two, three, don't Taser me," and "U-C-P-D, you disgust me." After about an hour, students began marching to the university police station, where about 200 students gathered in front of the building. More than 50 student organizations sponsored the rally, during which students demanded that an independent investigation be conducted into the officers' actions.

According to a statement released Wednesday by UCPD, the incident in which Mostafa Tabatabainejad was stunned with a Taser several times for failing to produce his BruinCard or leave the library upon request is currently under internal review.

But students at the rally said they wanted an additional investigation to be conducted by an outside organization, adding that they wanted students to be involved with the investigation as well. "The chancellor should appoint students who will be able to make sure the investigation is transparent," said Combiz Abdolrahimi, chairman of the National Iranian-American Council at UCLA, which helped organize the event. "We're also calling for a temporary suspension of the officers."

Man... we used to get copies of the DB sent up here to Sacramento back in the day. That, and the Berkeley Barb, and about a hundred others. Good to know they're still there, and being wholly complimented by the "Internets", LOL!!!

The torch is once again passed to a new generation...

1. Thanks for the links
And good for the UCLA students. But "Meyerhoff Park was electric Friday..." is such a terrible way to lead that story.

3. Youtube video
Here's the link from youtube to the video recorded by camera phone

I've watched it, and in my opinion, this guy had multiple chances to leave the library. Police asked him several times, and the guy made a scene. I think he actually deserved it.

4. I seem to be a little late on the details here
Was there some reason the police couldn't just bodily drag his ass out of there?

5. mmmkay
The kid deserved four to five taserings when he had neither the weapon nor the physical strength to overpower several trained officers?

You have fun with that theory.

6. well, it's not clear on the video
But you can clearly hear them trying to remove him. For whatever reason, they stopped, and then he was tased. I can only hear two times on the video (some people say 4 or 5?)

Regardless...they used force to incapacitate him. He was able to walk out of there, as near as I can tell. I don't call that excessive. Just because this is america I don't feel you have the right to do whatever you want when cops try to remove you for breaking rules.

9. Watch it again
Listen for each time the mass of students scream in unison. That will indicate a taser shot. Then take note of how his is dragged off, handcuffed at the end.

Get back to me.

8. not quite
I feel there's a vast difference for between holding criminals accountable vs. causing a big damn stink because you just don't feel like listening. Am I the only one who believes in personal responsibility?
