I witnessed Nixon's terrible fall, now I want to see dubya's.
Nixon's awful fall from lofty heights at the end of the awful war was terrible and enjoyable to watch, it is the single event that got me involved forever in politics.

There are many parallels, hard to ignore, and many differences too, Both are maniacs, but both come from totally different backgrounds. Both had wars to deal with, but dubya ordered this one up special, all by himself.

I remember it was two painful years long, the ultimate resignation of Nixon, and I know that dubya still has two years to go. But dubya is not a very strong individual and I am beginning to wonder if I might live to see a second American president step down in disgrace.

1. if repukes didn't own the media
there wouldn't be any repuke "presidents" and disgrace would be far less common in that office.

16. No poor man ever owned a newspaper. Not in all history.
But, as long as there was genuine competition among them, readers were free enough to pick and choose and that money decision affected editorial decisions. Sometimes.

I'm pretty sure no paper anywhere ever ran an editorial sympathetic to the "red menace."

3. I remember Nixon's downfall, too.
I remember that before the impeachment I started seeing criticism of Nixon from very unexpected sources, including some conseervatives and republican politicians and pundits. It was than I knew that Nixon didn't have long to rule. I'm starting to see this now with bush, but I don't know if the Democrats in the House will have the courage or will to push the investigations and impeachment.

4. Won't happen
President Cheney will never step down voluntarily. He'll have to be dragged out of the oval office with chimpie wrapped around his neck.

and pointed to Nixon as a shining example of honorableness too.

9. I wouldn't have missed Nixon's downfall for anything.
I even watched that truly bizarre speech Nixon gave to White House employees the day he formerly left office.

We may just see that happening again. And if it does, of course a Democrat will be elected President in 2008/ And we'll solidify our majorities in Congress. History does repeat.

14. No, he's not.
Someone on one of the talk shows (I think it was "The McLaughlin Group"...sue me, I still watch that show) described this November's election as a slapdown of Bush. And that's a perfect way to put it. And those approval ratings aren't going up, that's for sure.

12. I was a Watergate junkie,
but I can't say the end result made me delirious with joy.

I was sad for my country, and curiously, sad for Nixon. He threw away a chance at a brilliant Presidency. The man did have some good ideas, and some good policies.

The same can't be said of *. All * and his cronies did was to look at Nixon and learn how not to get caught.

Nixon was Greek tragedy. * is badly written melodrama. He has no dignity.

* won't step down. Someone will have to carry him out, one person taking the arms, and the other the legs. If he does go, he will hurt everyone first.

18. He knew Jerry Ford would preemptively pardon him
He also knew it would have been a lot harder for Ford to pardon him if the full scope of his high crimes and misdemeanors were revealed to the public.
