Now then...I'm starting over. Who here can help me? I need solid tips. |
|
I'm starting with my school board.
What do I need to do to make sure that my school board is stacked with "people who get it"?
Give me some basic tips. Start at the beginning.
Where do I start?
We're gonna build from the ground up.

5. My husband is on School Committee |
|
In fact he was on School Committee in one other town too. He helped build a new school (Yeah!) that my children never got to attend because he had a lay-off and we had to move. (Oh sigh!)
Ah, we moved, got a new house and he got known around town. Certain people asked him to run for School Comm in the new town. So, he did. (Some people never learn. LOL!)
90% of life really is showing up. Go to School Comm meetings. Start learning the issues. Talk to other parents. Find out what is 'hot' for issues in your town right now. Talkto your neighbors and friends. Talk to the current bunch of elected folks in town. Then one day, go down to City or Town Hall and take out papers and run. There is nothing, nothing like going into a voting booth and looking at your name on the ballot. The job is very local, it involves hours off your week that you can't spend with your kids or wife, is done for little or no pay and is largely thankless. And you become that foot soldier for democracy.
Do it!
