The joke is on Sen. Mary Landrieu |

If that bitch thinks she's going to get one cent for more Katrina relief from this administration for supporting Alito, then boy oh boy, do I have some beautiful ocean front property in Kansas I'd like to sell her.

She voted for Alito because she digs him.
I think we have a bunch of closet reich wingers in our party, Landrieu being one of them.

Senator Landrieu is pro-Minimum Wage, she's pro-Social Security, she's pro-Choice, she's pro-Progressive Taxation, she's pro-Medicare, she's pro-Civil Rights, she's pro-Labor Union.
Does any of that sound like she's a Repuke?

Either retire or pass away. The swing vote is now Justice Kennedy, he's not a Right-Wing freak. Samuel Alito is not the fifth vote for Roe v Wade. This is why there has been no filibuster and this is why so many of our Senators voted Yea.
The Justice Stevens or Justice Ginsburg one, this will be the filibusters of filibusters.

why don't you guys look around and run a true-blue against her. it wouldn't be that hard--just point out how well (not) she's gotten nola back on its feet.
i think she traded her vote with the hope that bush is still gonna throw her that bone.
so she's willing to sell out the rest of this country.
that's nice.
we all want nola up and running again. i can't imagine it's gonna happen with the republicans in charge. i heard halliburton is already getting contracts there--and if they treat the people of new orleans like they treat the troops in iraq you will literally be bathing and drinking sewer water for a year because that is exactly what halliburton did to our troops. (besides look how great halliburton is rebuilding iraq.....)
the people of this country sent billions to new orleans relief and these top agencies have used up almost 3/4ths of that at this point. how much longer can people of new orleans wait? she should be furious--she should be shouting thsi from the rooftops that the feds aren't helping.
instead she votes with bushie, keeps her voice down, and i have to hear this little news clip on cnn with lisa somebody doing a two minute special report.
when mary votes in favor of alito she certainly isn't helping new orleans. alito gets on the bench and when n.o. is poisioned by drinking water, or when the crap still isn't cleared away five years from now, the people will have no recourse. alito loves the corporations, not the "mythical little guy". you guys are really screwed now. imo. good luck.

Well, he isn't Senator instead of Landrieu, and neither is David Vitter, and neither are any of the other right-wing nightmares I can come up with (David Duke, anybody?).
Instead, you have Landrieu and her shitty vote, and all the excuses she'll offer for casting it, and all the time in the world to watch as street after street remains unrebuilt and as federal money (yet again) fails to materialize to rebuild that part of America.
But please, spare us the straw men.

Many are poor and she has insured that her state will get much more.
Last I heard no civil right had been overturned.
Some/many who aren't wealthy and white voted for her.
I'm pretty sure they are glad they have a senator that looks out for their longterm wellbeing as she sees it. That's what they elected her to do.
She stood up for the common people.

They may not. But I think at this point suggesting that they will is pure speculation. She did what she felt she had to do. She won a hotly contested election and she knows darn well what her constituents want. To pretend that she is up there for some greater good of the national party is foolish. There are very few Senators that have that luxury.

"Because we have such a full plate of pressing issues before Congress, a filibuster at this time would be, in my view, very counterproductive."
how does anything top the future of this country, the years of blood and tears in progress we've made with the civil rights movements, the women's movement, etc. (as kennedy said), how does the next bit of business become more important than our civil rights and liberties? look up the meaning to the unitary executive--it doesn't mean "just one president" like the republican spinners were trying to tell the "little people" on the tv lately.
how does putting our great constitution and our beloved supreme court in jeopardy appear in mary's eyes to be counterproductive?
sounds like she has an agenda to me.
and that agenda is SUCK UP!
i say odds are five to one that she's really screwed up--along with all the other turncoats.
(even my neighbors have been bitching to me about how things are so fu*ked up lately, bitching about the government, etc. i finally said it's all republican run--all of it! and you voted for it! you sang their praises--you argued with me about what a piece of shit kerry was, the dems were. you don't like it? suck it up! and WAKE UP! and now when the water gets worse and the air gets worse and the clicks on the phone get worse i'll only be able to say SUCK IT UP. and think how stupidly blind, and purposefully ignorant people can be.) because supporting dem principles and supporting what would be the best thing for DECADES TO COME is only being "counterproductive" in mary's opinion.

A filibuster would not have deadlocked the Senate. The work of the Senate would have gone on. The days of "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" are over. This was, in effect, the confirmation vote for Scalito today. Every Senator who voted in favor of cloture was voting for Scalito and they knew it. Don't do them a favor by giving them political cover. The dems who voted for Scalito today are traitors and scumbags.

59. What makes you think you have the right |
|
to call her a bitch? YOU DO NOT.
I don't care how fucking mad you are -- I'm plenty angry with her and Cantwell and 17 others as well -- YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEMEAN HER ON THE BASIS OF HER SEX/GENDER.
You just don't. Just as you don't have the right to demean Clarence Thomas or Condi Rice on the basis of their RACE. It's the same thing. Angry with them? Fine -- criticize their faults and failings, NOT their race.
Angry with some woman? Fine. Criticize her for her faults and failings, NOT her sex/gender.
