The Democrats who voted for Alito are T-R-A-I-T-O-R-S!
They deserve to lose their seats to real Democrats! Real people who are not afraid to stand up to Fascist Republicans. Landrieu, Akaka, Inouye, and Nelson MUST GO! You might as well throw in Lieberman, Feinstein, and Biden as well. So they voted "Nay!" but still they are spineless! THROW THESE WORMS OUT!!!

6. Primaries are healthy, even if the Alito 19 survive them
They will establish that the most dedicated supporters of the Democratic party are not satisfied, and the survivors will be suitably chastened (ideally). If not, then the primaries continue, until the Alito-ites lose.

7. Who was the fourth dem to vote for Alito?
I know Ben Nelson, Johnson of SD and Byrd. BTW, this isn't my first post here. I lost my password to my old screen name and the email account I had it sent to no longer exists. So now I've re-awakened as Ned Devine!

competing dem is strong enough to overtake the republican going for the seat. If they aren't, than we should campaign for the existing dems.

Our biggest goal is keeping repugs from senate seats, period. If we can get a dem with more balls in instead I'm all for it. But if by doing that is only going to increase the chances of losing the seat than it would be an act of complete irresponsibility that hurts the party.

I hope people understand this.

10. NO! No more excuses and no more compromises!
I am sick of this rationalization of why we should vote for people who are not really Democrats. Those who have sold the party down the river and it's principles. No! Not going to work this time! These traitors must get out of office. If that means if our people don't win the primaries then maybe it is time to try a third party candidate. No joke! The time for compromise ends tonight!

12. If You Vote For Somebody Who Is Likely To Lose To A Repub, In Place
of a dem who could've won, than you are working for the enemy, period.

We must take the senate in 06. That is our goal. I want better dems in too, where possible. But if there is a choice of voting for a dem we like that will lose, or a dem we don't like as much that can win, we best get over our selfish emotions, do what's best for the country, and unite with the one we like less for the greater good of winning back the senate.

14. Those that are working for the enemy are already in office
These Neocon enablers are no better than the Neocons themselves and must be swept from office. That excuse is poppycock! It no longer washes!

16. corporatist democrats are as much the enemy as
corporatist republicans. if a pol is pro- war, pro- free trade(i.e. outsourcing), pro business over labor, pro subsidising agri/chem-industry over family farms, then what flippin difference does it make whether the label on their designer suit is democrat or republican? time to do away with the duopoly, and i think abramoff and alito express exactly why.

21. Good post John.
Phony/fake/weak representation is as bad or worse than no representation.

-- Fake Dems present the illusion that the little guy is being represented, and that illusion prevents the rise of genuine representation, which pushes us ever further into the abyss.

-- Fake Dems create conflict within the party. They divide us and dilute our message.

-- Fake Dems bolster the argument that the Democratic Party is in disarray and doesn't know what it stands for.

-- Fake Dems keep the fascist agenda moving full steam ahead.

-- Fake Dems stand for nothing, and their weakness and their pandering drives away potential Dem voters.

In short, they are poison. They will ensure the demise of our standard of living and our liberty by creating the illusion of representation, thereby preventing the rise of a genuine voice for the people. We might be worse off without these traitors in the short-term, because their defeats would result in devastating republican gains. But in the long run we may be better off to be rid of them, because their defeat would likely lead to the emergence of a reinvigorated party that truly represents the little guy.

To OPERATIONMINDCRIME: If you really believe that "keeping repugs from senate seats" is the ultimate goal, and if you believe that those who don't share your view are "irresponsible", then you are missing the point many here are trying to make: Ensuring that the little guy has a seat at the table and a share of the pie is the goal - and it has always been the goal. Anyone who impedes the achievement of that worthy goal is the enemy. And if they obstruct that good and decent objective while wearing the mantle of the democratic party (in other words, if they do it in our name) - then they are the biggest enemy of all. There are NO excuses for Dems who helped to grease the skids for this fascist's elevation to the Supreme Court. None. Alito is a sworn enemy of the little guy. There is no greater threat that could be posed to our lifestyle and to our liberty. ANY Senator who failed to throw his body down in front of this abomination is no Democrat, and no friend of the common person - period. They should be targeted for defeat and viewed with the same contempt typically reserved for republican politicians who care not a whit about the plight of the little person or the common good.

Tear it all down, every last piece of masonry and lumber. Burn the rats out, purge every last one of the Quisling 19 and drive them forth from the party in such a way that they will never have political ambitions again in the rest of their miserable lives.

20. Do you live in NM?
Your profile says Los Altos CA (My Grandparents lived there for years...love the area). Why insert yourself into NM politics? With all due respect, Bingaman isn't going to care what you think. You can't vote for him. That said, he's in a tough position. This state has some screwy politics. They're more like southern democrats than our Northern brothers and sisters. In today's terminology, they'd be called "centrist".

Bingaman is up for reelection in 2007. He has to walk a fine line, much like many other democrats who decided not to filibuster. The people in my state are NOT going to make Alito the burning issue of the decade. We have far too many Hispanic (Catholic) voters for the threat to abortion to hold much weight here. What's Bingaman supposed to do? Tell his constituents to piss off and fall on his sword? Believe me, he's going to get enough crap for his "no" vote this morning. I doubt he wants to draw any more attention to it than he has.

Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 02:46 AM by Nutmegger
they all pass the buck. Some of the Democrats I'm proud of but, for real, ????

Their "no" vote later today will not stop Alito. You know who I think of now? That poor little girl, that's who. I think of us and the people who have been subjected to the mishandlings of Bush Inc and his NSA. If there was a reason for the filibuster, Alito was it.
