I want to make sure I can have an impact on the primary to see if we can make a difference... But afterward, I'm looking to newer pastures!

2. You're entitled.

I'm a bit confused as to why you are announcing it though. Not to put you off at all, but you really don't owe anyone an explanation if that is where your heart lies and what you want to do (vote independent).

Or are you stating this in hopes someone will try to talk you out of it? ;)

Otherwise, you may be inviting some feedback you may not desire...

4. I want to do my part to try and get decent Democrats nominated first...
NEW ones to replace the baggage we have in place now! Feinstein may have voted against cloture this time, but we had to drag her kicking and screaming to do it. I will look to vote against her if someone better presents themselves in the primaries.

I might consider staying if we can replace some of these bums in the primaries, but if we don't, it's a statement that I and others can make that this party no longer represents me. If enough of us do that, perhaps they'll get the picture!

5. Oh, Feinstein--
she's enough to send anyone packing to a new party! LOL!

But seriously, we've all talked about her before. We know what we're dealing with, and many of us on the CA boards have shared we are committed to getting her out. I was frankly shocked before all of this, when she stated she was voting no on the nomination. Seriously--shocked. Really unlike her to do something I agree with.

I'm sure there are others you are disgusted with. We all are. But if you still care about this party, stay with us. Fight with us to make it the way you want it.

I don't see them getting concerned about the independent party, unfortunately.

Join them if you sincerely want to, and they represent your interests. We'll miss you of course :( . But don't leave us to send a message to the Dem party. I doubt they would get it. You know how they are.

7. Oh did Boxer help her sponsor the flag burning bill?
I think you have Boxer confused with folks like Duke Cunningham!

And the only reason she backed off her cloture vote was Cindy Sheehan's threat to run against her... Part of me hopes that Cindy still runs anyway!

12. Her record sucks.
It isn't about winning or losing. It's about having people in office that will stand up and fight when their consituents need them to.

If you'd rather lose your interests just to be able to say you won, that's certainly your choice.

Planning on moving here to vote for Feinstein?

Check out the CA boards, there's plenty of us that do live here at present that are unhappy with her and are ready for her and her record to be history.

13. (GRLMGC) I thought she had--
I'm frankly kind of confused about her back and forth. I was so pleased to see her voting on our side for once, I kind of stopped paying attention (bad move).

Next thing I know, I'm hearing she changed her mind. Still not sure what happened with her...

14. It was probably the calls
I kept trying to call her D.C office and it was busy each time. I tried to call her Los Angeles office but my phone refused to recognize it as a real number, haha

15. LOL--Good one!
I bet you're right though, about the calls (and faxes) making her change her mind.

Everytime I called her office, her staff was spent--they were fielding major high call volume. I couldn't get through to her SF office or DC.

9. No, she does not..
I respectfully disagree--not most of the time by any means. Boxer stood up and came out to state vehemently that she was against Condi's nomination for her current position in the admin. Feinstein supported Condi's nomination--loudly.

Though I honestly don't have a running list of all the ways and times that Feinstein has voted differently from Boxer and pissed many of us CA people off--I do know it's happened enough that quite a few of us have had it with her.

There was a thread(probably been archived) where we were arguing amongst ourselves. A few that are just happy Feinstein claims Dem status. Others consider her against our interests.

18. What difference does that make...?
...if the people that ultimately have to vote for (or against her) aren't happy with her votes/decisions?

I haven't read or heard of anyone being displeased with Senator Boxer, yet I frequently read and hear of many of Feinstein's constituents that would happily vote her out of office. So, it really doesn't matter what her 'stats' say, or what proof you provide regarding HOW she votes.

The bottom line is her constituents dislike the stances she has taken. Her constituents. The people she WORKS for. They're unhappy. That's all that matters.

22. Only because she's run unchallenged--
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 11:57 AM by bliss_eternal
in the sense that those that have run against her weren't known, didn't have her political background, etc. I didn't say she was hated by all, but she's not as popular as you seem to think. Your arguments and opinion seem based on the superficial and I'm not at all sure why you feel the need to argue this...

Given that you don't live here, haven't talked to any other Californians to gauge their opinion of her, looked beyond just what you've read and seen around DU...

Is this an issue you are sincerely interested in, or are you merely arguing it for the sake of an argument? If you are, I would again suggest you visit the CA board, where we have discussed this issue--why Feinstein wins, what we need to do to get rid of her, etc.

21. Vote issues. Not politicians or party.
I've been a Democrat since 1965 but have no qualms about voting for progressives when the Dem nominee is sell-out.
