Los Angeles/Studio City - have been hearing groups of helicopters all day
flying overhead.

Sound like Army helicopters, but Ive been inside and havent been able to see them by the time I go outside. They seem to be flying to the north of me.

Anyone else seeing/hearing them?

2. Is this thread referring to observing the same thing?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2780400

What it means, if anything....I dunno. I guess that's why the question is being asked. Experts? Anyone? Bueller?

3. I Hear 'Em Over PV
Not tonight, but I hear Army copters over Palos Verdes. Haven't seen yet whether they're Black Helicopters.

Know what I mean? hehe

4. Call the local police station and ask them.
They're always happy to fill you in.

The local line, not 911 of course.

7. I lived in los angeles for 25 years. I called them whenever I had the same
types of questions about police activity and I always got a straight answer.

What makes you think the duty commander is going to lie to a person calling on the telephone witha simple question? Those cops are your neighbors, family, friends and relatives. They're not top secret covert agents for the vast right wing.

The number is 818-623-4016.

10. Support Your Local Sheriff
Glad to know you trust LAPD so implicitly. Remember the choke hold? Geronimo Pratt? Cointelpro? Mark Furman? Stacey Koon? Ramparts?

In the 1960's the US Supreme Court said citizens "interfaced with LAPD at their peril."

14. You bet. I had the privilege to work directly with the LA County Sheriff's
Dept for more than 10 years. My interactions with them (even when they me come out of the building with their shotguns aimed at me in order to ascertain that I wasn't a hostage...) were always professional and top quality... heck ESPECIALLY when they had to keep their shotguns trained on me, you can bet they were just following procedure. They really didn't want to shoot me.. and they didn't. I found the sheriff's personnel to be exceptional people who were willing to go to the mat to do the right thing in a lot of situations.

The LAPD has had its share of problems, in particular and specifically with individual personnel, as have most police agencies, no question. But you can bet that almost every nation on the planet has modeled their agencies after the LAPD... even in spite of some problems with its individuals. They are epic and historic in reputation, believe it or not.

I think one of the most stunning and successful events in LAPD history was the North Hollywood/Studio City bank robbery. That went down in a textbook resolution with both procedures being followed, and through the inventive use of the local firearms dealer... with no loss of civilian or LAPD life during the actual encounter.. that even lead the way to shotguns being standard issue in the squad cars after that. I find on a one to one level these people out on the streets really do care about their communities and their jobs. There are always bad apples, they happen, but for the most part, the LAPD is okay.

8. It could also be a movie or teevee shoot, considering the location.
If it is, the local police station will know and make sure they have permits.

11. In less 'militaristic' times, I would give that suggestion more creedence...
However, as GW says, "we are at war", whatever that means. Perhaps it means more precisely that they are at war, as so many of us now understand.

For the record, here is what was witnessed from another DU thread.....doesn't sound like a run of the mill location shoot.

Not to mention if helicopters are flying completely darkened, it doesn't sound like 1) they're being filmed or 2) they are heading somewhere to be filmed.

With that said, I don't know what was going on today, but there were apparently a number of military helicopters headed somewhere.

Here is some information from BHN's thread:

<< I live in southern CA- for the last three hours I have
watched several military helicopters fly over in various
formations-
Example:
Two with white lights followed by a few completely darkened.

Later, several single military copters with red lights only.
Head and tail.
Just curious to know if anyone knows the reason for the red lights.
I have not seen that before.>>
