Is Glenn Beck trying to unseat Limbaugh as king of Brownshirt propaganda?
Edited on Wed Nov-22-06 09:43 AM by marmar
Here's a collection of his recent gems from the Media Matters website:

From the November 20 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: All right. The director of the film publicly has said that he changed the original screenplay to amplify the environmental themes and that, quote, "You can't tell a story about Antarctica and the penguins without giving that dimension."

Call me crazy, but, yes, you can. And if you're going to include those themes, the least you could do is tell me, a parent. Tell me about it first, OK, so I know I'm walking into propaganda.

But with Happy Feet, no, they just couldn't. They couldn't shoehorn that into the marketing. That'd be too tough. I wonder if it's because they knew that people, you know, wouldn't go see it or not as many. They may not pull in $42 million if people thought they'd be watching an animated version of An Inconvenient Truth.

...........

BECK: You know, I think -- you know, and I -- honestly, I thought of this during the election. With Vermont -- is it Vermont? Which is the one that just elected the first socialist?

MICHAEL GRAHAM (radio talk-show host): Vermont. Vermont.

BECK: Yeah, Vermont.

GRAHAM: Right up the road here, yeah.

BECK: I believe we should take the ice cream factory without the two fat guys, and we should vote them out of the union. I think you should have a renewal period on every state. I think the rest of the country should vote whether you're a state or not anymore.

GRAHAM: There are plenty -- there are plenty of Americans who, I think, don't qualify as citizens from a standpoint of knowledge, et cetera.

BECK: Exactly.

............

BECK: A couple of months ago, the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq urged his supporters to each kill at least one American in the next 15 days. It was a shocking statement, but hardly surprising.

Then, just a few days later, I came across a response to that message of hate that was surprising. It said, "You hid in your caves and behind the faces of civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq. You have abandoned God and have started worshipping your own satanic egos that rejoice at the killing of innocent people."

Why do I say that statement, something that many of us agree with, is surprising? Because the man who wrote it is a Muslim. He lives right here in the United States.
..............

On the November 14 edition of his CNN Headline News program, Glenn Beck interviewed Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), who became the first Muslim ever elected to Congress on November 7, and asked Ellison if he could "have five minutes here where we're just politically incorrect and I play the cards up on the table." After Ellison agreed, Beck said: "I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' " Beck added: "I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way."

As Media Matters for America has noted, Beck previously warned that if "Muslims and Arabs" don't "act now" by "step to the plate" to condemn terrorism, they "will be looking through a razor wire fence at the West" and declared that "Muslims who have sat on your frickin' hands the whole time" rather than "lining up to shoot the bad Muslims in the head" will face dire consequences.

From the November 14 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: History was made last Tuesday when Democrat Keith Ellison got elected to Congress, representing the great state of Minnesota. Well, not really unusual that Minnesota would elect a Democrat. What is noteworthy is that Keith is the first Muslim in history to be elected to the House of Representatives. He joins us now.

Congratulations, sir.

ELLISON: How you doing, Glenn? Glad to be here.

BECK: Thank you. I will tell you, may I -- may we have five minutes here where we're just politically incorrect and I play the cards face up on the table?

ELLISON: Go there.

BECK: OK. No offense, and I know Muslims. I like Muslims. I've been to mosques. I really don't believe that Islam is a religion of evil. I -- you know, I think it's being hijacked, quite frankly.

With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, "Let's cut and run." And I have to tell you, I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, "Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies."

And I know you're not. I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way.

ELLISON: Well, let me tell you, the people of the Fifth Congressional District know that I have a deep love and affection for my country. There's no one who is more patriotic than I am. And so, you know, I don't need to -- need to prove my patriotic stripes.

2. Give that piece of shit a strong drink and a rifle.
Get him to the front line to fight all the wars he wants others to fight for him. And give him a drink because he has been needing one for a long time now, and it may save us from more of his broadcasts.

3. I heard the two of them together on Rush's show
Beck was promoting his "Arabs - They're All Terrorists" show.

What weird interview - they were BOTH fumbling and misunderstanding each other. And Rush didn't seem to be at all impressed with Beck.

Maybe Rush is seeing his own role as hatemeister being slowly usurped.

6. Why liberals and the left in general aren't building our own
mainstream networks and cultivating TV personalities is beyond me. I don't say we should try to emulate Rush and Beck, but we should try to cultivate our own brand of TV shows for the mass media.

7. I think he's more a Bill O'Rielly clone than a Rush Clone
In that he pretends to be independent while being clearly a republican.

8. He sucks. He really, really sucks.
Can't we just banish Beck and Rush to some deserted island somewhere? It's disgusting that people like that can litter public airwaves with that kind of hate.

Props to Ellison on standing his ground to that moron. He knows he doesn't have to stoop to that level.

9. Won't happen.
His ratings on his Headline News show are LOWER by far than even Little Tucker Carlson, who's in the basement at MSNBC.

They did that ridiculous radio and net promo these last couple of weeks, got ONE NIGHT of sampling, and his rating immediately WENT DOWN. Meaning, CNN and he just proved he's a failure.

Next...but not until we hound you some more for being a racist.
