Pelosi "Measuring the drapes" -- for real

"Measuring the drapes" -- for real

Incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi has decided to pick up and move her suite of offices across National Statuary Hall to the space now occupied by outgoing GOP Speaker Dennis Hastert.

Democratic speakers and leaders have been in the suite where Pelosi is currently situated for years. Pelosi herself has often marveled at how she finds herself in the same office used by one of her personal heroes, Tip O'Neill. But construction on the Capitol Visitors Center has shrunk that space considerably, and though Pelosi was known to harbor desires to stay where she is, her staff was insistent. Plus, the Hastert space on the west side of the Capitol has a balcony that affords a dramatic view down the National Mall.

So it turns out that she really will need to measure the drapes -- as President Bush suggested Democrats were doing in the weeks before the election.

Berber carpet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Berber carpets are a type of carpet made by Berbers in North Africa.

History

The origin of Berber carpets date back to the Paleolithic era.

......................................

Main article: Berber beliefs

Berbers are predominantly Sunni Muslim, most belonging to the Maliki madhhab, while the Mozabites, Djerbans, and Nafusis of the northern Sahara are Ibadi Muslim. Sufi tariqas are common in the western areas, but rarer in the east; marabout cults were traditionally important in most areas.

Before their conversion to Islam, some Berber groups had converted to Christianity (often Donatist) or Judaism, while others had continued to practise traditional polytheism. See also Berber Jews.

Under the influence of Islamic culture, some syncretic religions briefly emerged, as among the Berghouata, only to be replaced by Islam.

14. I loved that whole bit in the last episode of "The West Wing."
Especially how, once Bartlet left for the inauguration, everyone shifted into gear tearing things up, moving things around, and changing things. It was the familiar Bartlet Oval when he left it, and when we see the new President come in, it's completely different.

Now if only the same people who do that could have cleaned up after Katrina....

5. Well, I hope the drapes aren't replaced unless they NEED to be replaced.
With our soaring deficit, America cannot afford to waste money on such extravagances as new drapes unless they are truly needed. I'm sure the ones there aren't threadbare, knowing how the GOP spends money.

I think the Dems should set the tone and start conserving money everywhere they possibly can, and that includes using what's already there unless it really is worn out and needs to be replaced.

We have roads in America that are worn out. We have bridges that are dangerous. These things need money before new drapes are ordered. Dems must get their priorities straight. Americans voted for real change, not just a change of parties. If the Dems spend money like the GOP has, we will be the big losers in 2 years.

8. Amen! And help those veterans that served this country - all of them!
Don't let them die trying to get emergency care because YOU (Democrats and Republicans, collectively) cut the budget for them.
