1. hsher, thanks for the post, I'll follow that being a Jon Stewart fan myself. I
remember you mentioning this when you posted on my post about the pot delivery in NY.

2. Thanks... er... Jon :D
The one that gets me is panel two, the middle panel. I had to fight myself like hell to keep from adding a single word, dot or speck to that picture. Finally, I was like, "leave it alonnnnnnnne! Just let it staaaaaaannnnnd!"

And so I did. ;)

3. First of all, the css on The Leibowitz is seriously hosed
Somebody forget to set some padding and margin parameters. The right sidebar text is overlapping the comics, making them unreadable. But beyond that...

I read about half the article. I'm sick of this shit where so-called reports inject buzzwords and scary phrases into a story. They're supposed to be REPORTING, and instead they're INCITING. Take this, for instance:

Among the legions of home delivery customers is Chris, a 37-year-old salesman in Manhattan. He dials a pager number and gets a return call from a cheery dispatcher who takes his order for potent strains of marijuana.

Within a couple of hours, a well-groomed delivery man — sometimes a moonlighting actor or chef — arrives at the doorstep of his Manhattan apartment carrying weed neatly packaged in small plastic containers.

How does the reporter know about what "strain of marijuana" was ordered? Is there a menu? Can NON-potent strains of marijuana be ordered? Is this a story about potent strains of weed, or weed delivery? There is no evidence presented anywhere that anything but pot was being delivered, but we're to buy into the same ridiculous crap the cops pull when they catch a street dealer; they ALWAYS claim it was the killer weed that will wipe out mankind. No one ever just buys plain old pot. It's always the chronic. Bullshit spin to add weight to the story.

Secondly, the pot come "neatly packaged in small plastic containers." Uh, excuse me...every bit of weed I've ever purchased -- er, uh...the MY FRIENDS have ever purchased! This is about some guy I know, not me -- came "neatly packaged in a small plastic container." Most of us refer to it as a "baggie." A small plastic sandwich bag.

Maybe none of this is germane to the delivery aspect that is at the heart of the story, but I just hate this shit when reporters feel they have to dramatize the minutia so a story sounds scarier and more menacing than it actually is.

What this story is really saying? That some dealers will deliver to your house. HOLY SHIT, BATMAN! Call The Times! This is a story that broke thirty years ago.

It just means you use Firefox, my lovely sexy. PS, I agree with you - about how f*cking nuanced was this news story? It's hardly journalism. "Drugs are BAD, folks..." Um, I don't even use drugs, but that's your OPINION, Mr. Journalist?

What kills me is the journalist in question probably kicks back with bud in the evenings after his freelance gig and does not see a thing wrong with his nuancing. The moran. Cast some aparagus at his ass.

9. Firefox is W3 compliant
If it isn't showing up properly, it isn't because of Firefox. Are you doing your preview in IE, by chance?

13. If you're previewing in IE, THAT is the problem, not Firefox.
Edited on Wed Nov-22-06 03:37 PM by Atman
DITCH THAT IE SHIT!

They make up their own rules. Use the web standards, then EVERYONE can see it properly. What you're saying is akin to blaming the air when a plane with upside-down wings won't lift off.

6. Re: small plastic containers
The containers in NY they are referring to (in my experience) are these square, hard plastic containers that the buds fit nicely in to. PM me for more info ;)

12. There were lots of other instances just in the quote I posted.
"a cheery dispatcher"

"well-groomed delivery man"

"sometimes a moonlighting actor or chef"

SOME SAY it is president Bush's daughter.

SOMETIMES it is a COP! You want proof? I don't offer any more than the author does. Just believe me.

:eyes:

7. Firefox is why I include the strip in all postings
Click "image", or click REPLY like you're going to reply to the OP. That'll open it up for you clear as day and you won't have to visit the site. Although I'll miss you, and other Firefox readers... :(

16. PS, home pot delivery has existed everywhere for years
It's single-handedly why beepers and beeper use exploded in popularity during the 1990's.

Source cited: "Quinton's On His Way", rap pop song by rap group The Pharcyde, off their 1992 album Bizarre Ride II. PS: I have officially decided, as of now, I am going to write a screenplay based on that fucking hilarious song, and start developing it as a motion picture. IT NEEDS TO BE MADE: THE FEATURE FILM ABOUT DOPE COURIERS... wish me luck y'all!

(Those of you who already know about the TV show, yes, I'm busy on that, too... very tired, busy, exhausted girl... but happy.)

(The film will take until at least 2008 to get made, so I can pace myself. ) :)
