making housing poverty history
an email I just received and an issue that is important to me. My local TV station is not planning to show this documentary.

"May we never rest warm in our homes until all are free from poverty's chill." Anonymous

As we gather together in our homes to celebrate the blessings of our lives this Thanksgiving, here's a simple thing you can do that can help end poverty housing in your community. Next month NBC will air an important new one-hour documentary called "Building on Faith: Making Poverty Housing History." The program, hosted by veteran journalist Linda Ellerbee, will feature former presidential candidates John Edwards and Jack Kemp and will show how safe and secure homes are vital to building a just and functional society. Focusing on what people of faith are doing and can do to eliminate poverty housing, the program will also feature FaithfulAmerica founder Dr. Bob Edgar, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches. However...

Many but not all NBC affiliates plan to air the special. That's where you come in.

Please call your local NBC affiliate and ask for the program director. Then ask IF and WHEN they plan to air "Building on Faith: Making Poverty Housing History." With your encouragement, stations that are not committed to airing the special may add it to their lineup for December 10 or later.

To find your local station, go here: http://www.nbc.com/nbc/header/Local_Stations/

Why is this program so important? Because ONE THIRD of American families now spend at least 30% of their income on housing, which is officially "unaffordable." Worse yet, the National Low Income Housing Coalition reports that "there is not a single place in the whole country if you're a full-time, minimum-wage worker, where you can afford the rent on a one-bedroom rental unit." The first step to eliminating housing poverty is to understand why it exists, where it exists, and how we can work together to end it. "Building on Faith" will examine how businesses, faith groups and non-profits can work in partnership with government programs to eliminate substandard housing. Please help insure that everyone in your hometown can see this special.

Why not make the call today? Tomorrow stations will be closed, and you will be up to your elbows stuffing the turkey anyway. Your call today can make a great deal of difference. As always, we are grateful for your abiding concern for those who find strength through your voice. Blessings,

Vince Isner and the FaithfulAmerica.org Team

1. Sent an email just now
as they didn't list a phone number to the Chicago NBC affiliate.

Thanks for the information.

2. they don't for any of them
I had to follow the link to the local stations site and then find the contact page and number for the program manager.

Probably I should send a follow-up email since I didn't do a good job on the phone, but I thought a phone call would have more impact.

4. It never hurts to take advantage of ALL methods of communication!
Phone, email, fax, snail mail...

Something this unique is very important, so please ask everyone you know to contact the station. If you have all that contact info available, they're more likely to do so.

Also, couldn't hurt to ask your Congressional REps to watch it, also!

19. Just so you know - the 888 355-3588 number is defunct.
HOWEVER... not ALL of them are.

I recently had to update my sig line, though, because I had that one in there, too.

The rest are good.

So far: 1 877 851 - 6437

1 877 762 8762

22. BTW - just as a bit of trivia - (and should make it easier to remember!) -
the number 1 877 762 8762 works out in letters to be SOB U SOB!!! Pretty appropriate, 'eh?

3. THank you so very much!! Just what I've been looking for!
I"m trying to get people involved in creating more low-income housing where I am, and have been lamenting the dearth of info/video on this subject.

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention!!

I will hope I can find someone to tape this...

Bobbie

18. Thanks for the kick...
Clearly, this isn't something of much interest to DUers.

As a person without a home, it's very disappointing to me that there isn't more response to this.

Oh well....
