The Republicans have already used the nuclear option..
in essence.

If they can use the constant fear of actual use of the nuclear option to keep the Democrats afraid to filibuster, then they have essentially used the nuclear option in the most advantageous way possible - by not using it.

And they don't look like power-hungry lawbreakers (since people wouldn't appreciate the threat to use the nuclear option as much as they would the actual use)

Why do we play into their hands?

1. I must agree with you
There was no reason for the dems to back down, but they did so.

2. Yup, I agree
I've been screaming this since spring when the "nuclear option" surfaced. There would be serious consequences that the Repukes will have to face if that is used.

But if the Dems are afraid to filibuster then what's the point?
