I am for... the purge.

I have long advocated a "fourth way," in which the Democratic Party, in order to be a majority yet progressive-weighted party, must be a product of both centrist and progressive forces - but in such a political climate - in which we could not have hoped for any more momentum from the center... it is inexcusable to let such a historic and momentous vote slip by so gently in the wind without a passionate stand. We must turn the Guns of Spring upon our own, to purge the Blue State Traitors.

Any majority won in November would be an empty victory indeed with treachorous friends like these.

Party. The Republican are running roughshod because some Democrat politicians are more concerned with themselves than with the impending crash with the ice berg in this sea of apathy.

3. We should certainly make a short list of the Dems
who deserve to be replaced the very most, and then make a concerted effort to make it happen.

NOVEMBER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, and there is much work to do.

6. I agree--lets help fund primary opponents
for Leiberman and where there are no primary opponents lets select a close one(Byrd?) and make an example out of him.

7. Purge the party? Fix what is irrepairable?
Sorry, but the time is short, and such a task would take years, and years and still might not be done, ever. The party is broken beyond all hope of repair, best to throw it on the scrap heap of history and go with a party that is still clean, the Greens. The Greens take no corporate cash, and as long as corporate cash is flowing into the Democratic coffers, that is who the Dems real constituents will be. Thus, unwanted in this party, unrepresented by the Dems, it is time to go to the Greens, where we will have more of an impact and we will see our needs addressed.

I've been around too long to not see this truth, the party is broken, shattered, beyond all of hope repair. Time to start anew.

8. The Green Party is a joke
I'll take back my words, if they can get someone elected to a statewide office. Until then, I don't see the point in spending lots of time in setting up another party. Also, a viable national party needs to appeal to many different people. I don't see that with the GP. I don't see a broad coalition of minorities, labor, and moderates (you still need their votes to win). Plus, how do you get any media coverage?

The Dem party, at this point, is the only possible channel we have of doing something (well, not much with the existing membership) There are some decent people left in the party (those that didn't vote for cloture). There is also an existing infrastructure. It may be crumbling...well to the point of collapse, but it can be rebuilt. I say we salvage what we can.
