Dems lose the spin game in the media again
A few things really hurt us with the Alito nomination fight and I'd like talk about two of them. The third is the obvious one of the media pushing farther and farther to the right, but that's been discussed to death.

1. Dems did not capitalize on Harriet Miers- Miers name should have been screamed at the top of everyones lungs who did not want to see Alito confirmed. Joe average citizen would understand the argument that the Repubs blocked the Miers nomination so the Dems would be playing "fair" if they blocked Alito. The message of the Repubs trying to get a judge even further to the right of one of Bush's closest advisors was not delivered often enough or hard enough. A clear, concise argument, no matter how basic is what wins in today's politics...and we've got 50 different messengers giving 50 different messages. What's sad is the message doesn't even have to be true (ex Saddam and WMD's) as long as it's easy for the average citizen to understand.

2. The DINO's kill us when attempting anything even remotely controversial. There is ALWAYS at least one of them willing to stand with the Republicans. So what it's just one? WRONG. That one person allows the Republicans to use the phrase "bi-partisan support". When Joe Public hears that phrase they are extremely unlikely to to think the opposition to said judge/bill is being reasonable. The Repubs have only one issue where they have a split in their party....they "allow" senators in certain states to be pro choice. We would be better off without the DINO's while we are not in power. It is true that some of them (Nelson from Nebraska for sure) would be very valuable in attaining a majority, but they are a negative right now.

Finally, I'd just like to say thanks to those of you who have worked so hard on this issue and made it so easy for the rest of us to do something. If the Democrats in congress had half the organization and leadership skills exhibited by some at DU, we probably would be taking advantage of Dubya's horrific poll numbers.
