Repub at the pub tonight was joking about how Kerry's next opponent
would use this week against him, re: announcing a fillibuster from the slopes of Switzerland and such. He said it was the worst think Kerry could have done politically.

I tried to explain that Kerry was at an economic conference, and that the likes of Chertoff and Gonzalez were also there (why is no one joking about them on the ski slopes). He acknowledged that, but then still insisted that the GOP would use this against Kerry, calling him an elitist. Essentially, he was acknowledging that the GOP would distort this as they have so far, ala the press secretary.

They sure do know how to lie don't they. And they have the nerve to cry about the smearing on an honorable man (ie Alito, in case you didn't recognize the description.)

The truth means so little to these people.

So I told the guy that the grassroots were actually quite happy with Kerry at the mo'. He wasn't impressed.

But then, he was in Alito gloat mode.

I hope he's not still laughing in November. We need a Dem majority, damn it!

1. And a Democratic majority we shall have, LC. Another great post.
Thank you for it.

'Elitist' means 'the best.' It has become a perjorative, like 'liberal.'

Kerry has top-drawer brains and belonged at that conference. We could use a lot more liberal elitists in Washington.

4. Middle drawer brains, but he's used what he's been given
instead of pissing them away like the guy who cheated him out of the office he was actually qualified for. Anybody who's followed Kerry's career regarding BCCI and Iran Contra knows he was exactly the right man at the right time, which is why the Bush gang would have killed him rather than let him take office if the fraud hadn't done it.

However, the party needs to be looking to the west and midwest for the next wave of populism, not to the east or far west. Sad to say, all the people with the polished, college accents and credentials only remind Joe Workforce of the corporate punk who came in and told him his job was moving to Malaysia, don't let the door smack ya in the ass, buh bye.

Think Schweitzer. Think hard.

2. Tell him not to worry. Most people who would vote for Kerry aren't as
insular as Republicans.

3. Let me get this straight. The guy lied to smear Kerry. He knew
he was lying, but did it anyway. Lying to attack an opponent is okay with Republicans. It is their 11th Commandment. The Republicans have no moral or ethical base. It is the reason that need to be defeated.

9. You know, this 'elitist' crap really gets me. I'm going to start asking
anyone who says Democrats are elistists, what the he** do they think Leo Strauss, father of the Neocons, had to say? Strauss believed that "those who are fit to rule are those who realize there is no morality and that there is only one natural right – the right of the superior to rule over the inferior." Can you get anymore 'elitist' than a belief that some are 'superior'? Then add on, his belief that religion as absolutely essential in order to impose moral law on the masses who otherwise would be out of control. His follower, Ronald Bailey, claims religion as an "opiate of the masses".

The Neo-cons are just following Strauss' first principle: "perpetual deception".

10. You know what, I don't think that smear made much headway.

Most people I have spoken to just remember Kerry taking a stand and trying to stop Alito. If that is all they can muster, they're pretty pathetic.
