Here's to my 2 NJ senators..... |
|
Lautenberg and Menendez both came through for NJ and the country on the Alito vote. It ended up being for naught, but I'm still happy to live in a state where both Senators are dems and both voted the way they should have. And I'm even pretty confident in saying that Lautenberg's was a true vote of conscience not a calculated one for any long term political gain despite knowing it was a losing battle (ie. Clinton, Biden, etc.). Not that I begrudge those people voting that way or for that reason but it makes me happy to know that likely wasn't the reason my one senator did so. I can't speak too much to Menendez since he's new and I'm not all that familar with him but even if he just voted the way he felt his constituents wanted then I'm just as happy with that and proud of my state and 2 senators.

7. Agree. He was excellent |
|
We must not forget that this was a vote for a home state judge and as such that made it particularly difficult for them to oppose him.

our brave senators. Lautenberg does an incredible job representing us--he is always one of the first to stand up on key issues.
And as for Menendez, I thought that was a particularly brave vote for him. He'll need us in November. I was, frankly, very disappointed with Corzine's choice there (I was holding out hope for Nia Gill or even Rush Holt), but he's gone up a notch in my eyes at least.

I was unsure and lukewarm on Corzine's choice of him to take his senate seat. But this won me over so I will not only vote for and support him but donate to him as well.

and so proud of Lautenberg and Menendez; sadly I now live in a state where I only feel shame. But I'm still from NJ!

I have to admit that I was pretty sure that both Senators would vote against cloture, but that didn't stop me from calling regularly.
In retrospect, I almost long for the days of Robert "the Torch" Toricelli... Evidently, the Republicans could have given him extensive classes on corruption because he was a light-weight compared with what they've been doing. *sigh*
