Some Things To Remember
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 09:58 AM by Beetwasher
We still have 5 (a majority) relatively sane justices on the supreme court.

Chimpy is giving his SOTU tonight with the backdrop of the lowest approval's since Nixon, Iraq being a total shithole, Woodruff being plastered all over the news having had his brains blown out, and Jill Carol pleading for her life. Chimpy's going to tell everyone that everything is AWESOME and people are going to dislike him even more for lying so blatantly. He's praying for a SOTU bump, isn't that pathetic?

The grassroots activism over the last week was UNPRECEDENTED. It was incredible that we got what we got. 25 Senators stood up to be counted. That's never happened before. Senators like Biden and Feinstein who almost always automatically run to the middle heard us and were swayed. That's amazing people, it really is, we have power.

We still have the internet, DU and eachother.

Stand up brothers and sisters, be proud, be strong and continue the struggle. Sometimes you gotta keep fighting just because you can.

1. The masses are asses, the media is completely under RNC control,
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 09:51 AM by BlueEyedSon
progressives are in disarray (compared to the corporate-neofascict money machine), and no important US election is untampered.

Sorry, I'm still under the influence of yesterday.

3. Drink Heavily
It helps! ;-)

Seriously, what happened over the past week shows that the progressives ARE getting their shit together. It was REAL outpouring of grassroots, NOT astroturf which is all the other side has.

Chin up, brother!

Thx for the kind words...

2. Democrats need to focus on ECONOMIC issues
and point out HOW the GOP has screwed the middle class and the working poor of this country.

Do not let the GOP define the Democratic Party by the peripheral hot-button (religious/sexual) issues. This is the mistake that Democrats seem to make time after time.

5. That And They Need To Frame Better
and build the foundations to disseminate their frames. The messages need to be simple and emotive. We need to steal Repub frames. We do need to use fear like they do, because let's face it, fear motivates. But we need to make people fear REPUBLICAN's and their dangerous policies.

The Old Media IS a big problem, but the solution to that problem is right before our eyes, literally. We bypassed it over the past week using the internet. The NEW Media is OURS and we need to make it dominant and that is certainly possible.

6. Health care is interesting. It can be described as a purely economic issue
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 10:08 AM by BlueEyedSon
(if you have enough cash, you can always afford ala carte care or an arbitrarily comprehensive insurance plan), but really you can DIE as dead as a 9/11 victim otherwise.

Justice Clarence Thomas
Justice Anthony Kennedy
Justice Antonin Scalia

11. Kennedy

is more reasonable than the others on your list. He's not great, but he's not vile either. He's more in the "moderate" mold of O'conner.

9. Only on some privacy issues do we have 5
Kennedy is much more pro-corporate than many people apparently understand, and he was also one of the majority in Bush v. Gore. There were reasons to oppose Alito beyond abortion, you know.

10. Didn't Say There Wasn't
Where is abortion mentioned anywhere in my post?

Kennedy is not a great justice, but he's certainly more reasonable than some of the others.
