Bigger Fish to Fry Right Now
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 09:48 AM by Strawman
Am I pissed at the 19 Senate Dems who voted for cloture: you bet.

Do I want to see every last one of them bounced from office? Does that passion burn "deep within my loins like a flaming Golden Hawk?" It sure does.

I will not forget this. There will come a day when these turncoats turn to us for a helping hand and we can say, "sorry." None of them will ever receive a dime from me. I will never donate to any group that gives them a dime either. And when they come calling, I'll be sure to tell them that yesterday's vote is why.

But as bad as these guys and gals are, there is a group that poses a much greater threat to this country right now: Bush and the Republicans.

I wanted the filibuster. I saw it as the right thing to do as a matter of core principles and a momentum creating win politically. But it didn't happen. The Senate Dems didn't hang together on this issue. And now if we turn the guns on one another, we're playing right into Rove's hands. This kind of infighting is exactly what he wanted right now. We have to hang together and refocus again on Abramoff, and the domestic spying scandals. Toward that end. I can hold my nose and work with these turncoats.

Sure I can chew gum and walk, but focus is a finite thing. We can't go back in time and revote for cloture on Alito. If we focus all that passionate angry energy on these 19 traitors right now instead of Bush and the corrupt Republicans, Rove wins. Yesterday, I wanted these Dems heads to roll. Today I still want their heads to roll, but until Jan. 2007 at least, they are still Democratic Senators and that makes them at least potential situational allies. And they owe their base (aka us) big time. Let's allow them to make up if they want and when the time is right, kick their sorry asses to the curb. Put some fear of their base constituency in these gutless 19, for sure, but let's keep our eyes on the goal.
