DUers, what we've done the last 2 wks - the zealots do EVERY DAY
Yep, for all of our concentrated efforts this week, we need to remember that we must sustain that effort to combat the zealots on the right who do this every single day.

They have the media and some of the churches. They have the House, the Senate and the White House. They have Diebold and ES & S.

Seems impossible, doesn't it?

Well, it's NOT. We moved mountains these past few weeks JUST AS WE DID IN JANUARY 2005. We needed a Representative to challenge Ohio. We got one. We needed a Senator and we got one. How? By working together and making some noise.

I am proud of DU, proud of us, proud of myself, even.

We cannot let up. We have to do the following:
1. Continue to call and express our views on a weekly if not daily basis.
2. Call and challenge the media when they print lies and distortions.
3. Blog the truth.
4. Educate our neighbors.

I am going to try and help in the little ways that I can. I am one person but, when I stood with DU, I felt invincable.

I love you guys and am continually amazed at Skinner, Elad and EarlG for keeping us all together.

Now, go and FIGHT!!!

1. They started as soon as they knew there would be vacancies
They compiled a list of possible contenders, and started working out how they would defend each one. We only show that kind of organization in spurts.

2. Excellent point! They never give up or get weary

And they ALWAYS have blind faith in their Lorad and Savior King George, always!

Why do we continue to eat our Democrats for Breakfast.

They were facing an uphill battle with Alito.

Byrd wanted to get re elected and he must have gotten the word that he must not vote against Alito.

We do want Byrd on our side --- don't tic any of them off right, keep your eyes on the prize -- '06.

7. Bryd let me down. He really did.
But I can't let it make me weary. We have to sustain what we did in these last few weeks and what we did in December '04 and January '05.

We have to reach deep down and find some thing that keeps us motivated or we will surely lose every battle.

I envision us as freedom fighters throwing rocks at the tanks in our streets. It seems insurmountable at this point but enough rocks can stop a tank. As long as we continue to throw the rocks and don't throw rocks at each other, then we can bring down some tanks!!

8. Go arnheim! No guts, no glory!

We are the party with soul, so we hurt the most when we see how mean they are -- let's face it, they are one MEAN MACHINE.

Now that we know that, we have to fight harder and smarter.

Rule # 1 -- Never, never, never give up!

Rule # 2 -- Never let Republicans define our TRUTH

Rule # 3 -- Stay cool, calm and collected so that we may fight today's fight for justice

We don't have time for tears!

3. We should begin with the House today --
They have to revist the appropriations bill. We could get moving on the cuts to the services today. It might be a bit late to arrive at the party, but we should get there before it's over, just the same.

12. Also, there needs to be one page with all house elections
links to challengers and incumbent websites, polling, local news articles, talking points, action alerts, etc.

Basically, everything that was done for Alito, but reoriented towards taking back the House.

4. I'm with you arn . . .

we made significant progress and we need to keep up the momentum.

And yes, we have a lot to be proud of and now is not the time to rest on our laurels.

But rather than always reacting to the Repugs abuse of power, we need to lay the groundwork to get more progressives elected to Congress.

If we can't do it through the Democratic party, maybe its time to start a new political movement in this country before its too late.

I still write letters re: election reform.

I still write letters re: made up shit that I read in the paper (calling them on their lies!).

I still write letters re: choice

I write so many letters that I wonder if I'm going to be arrested for harassment soon!

No retreat, No surrender. EVER.

13. On many fronts
They write letters. They contact govt agencies, not just elected officials. They put fliers on windshields. They work all the time. They also make sure their message is one that people are willing to hear. We need to work every single day, in every single county and help the counties that don't have as much support as some of the bigger cities do.

14. I agree. The righties have groups who
feel like they are "Fightin' fer Gawd" so they make those calls and work their asses off.

Their problem? They only have a small number who actually take the time to do this. Their tenacity makes them seem more numerous.

We have the numbers, people.

I would add that cancelling your cable/satellite feeds is a great idea right now. Save the money for a rainy day and stop feeding the Nazi beast known as the media. You can find transcripts and videos of anything you might have missed online.

We have TVs at work, though I rarely am able to watch any program in its entirety, but I was able to see Gore's speech that way. I realize people would miss many good programs, but until the media stops lying, I refuse to support them by paying them to lie to me.

15. You make a great point, BHG - we have the numbers
We know that there are only about 34 - 40% of folks who support *. That leaves 60-65% who do not support him. That minority has made a lot of noise in the past 10 -15 years.

We can make more noise than they can. We can throw more rocks. We just have to stay at them and keep pushing, pushing, pushing.

No retreat. No surrender.

it terribly hard to lie. Then I'm no politician. But - yes - if you mean truth tellers have to stick to reality and therefore have fewer options.. I think I know what you mean.

19. As Martin Luther King said, "We shall overcome."
We have one major, major positive on our side. Polls increasingly show that the people prefer for Democrats to be in Congress. As long as we continue to stand for the people and by the people, they will come around, and we shall overcome.

Every day, arnheim? :(

20. Every day is a great idea...
and since we don't seem to have any progressive Democratic party leadership, I wish someone here at DU would take it into his or her head to give us a task of the day, or the week, or a latest project, and then let's all work on it. If we could come up with half of the effort we did over the past couple of weeks, we would have to make a difference. Anyone want to take it on? I'm not politically savvy enough.

Also, check the greatest forum first thing when you log on to DU. Lots of good stuff there as well.

Don't get overwhelmed, though. Call on one topic one day and another the next. Make your voice heard.

Use your cell phone minutes if you have a lot. That helps too.

23. That's absolutely correct. And it's worth remembering that, while
we did as much as we did in a few days, the Dark Siders have been doing, RELENTLESSLY, nonstop, with their every breath, since 1982. Took 'em 26 years. If we work as we did on this one, it should take far less time than that.

In Alito, G.O.P. Reaps Harvest Planted in '82

32. Been saying this for ages, as have a good many others around here
the number of naysayers often outweighs the number calling for action, unfortunately. "Letters, phone calls and emails won't help-I'm going to fight in other ways" is one line that I've heard frequently (though details on how these people "fight" aside from simply voting have never emerged). Demanding change from our officials and the media IS fighting-kvetching on DU about the state of the world is blowing off steam, nothing more. You're absolutely right; sustained action, like what we did when urging the filibuster on Alito, is needed weekly, if not daily.
