John Kerry on the Confirmation of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court
January 31st, 2006 @ 11:47 am

As I posted earlier, Alito is a done deal. Some valiant Democratic Senators stood and fought the good fight, on the Alito nomination and grassroots/netroots activists around the country rallied behind the call to fight that was issued last week by John Kerry.

Below is a statement by Senator John Kerry on the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“United States Senators refused to stand silent while President Bush packed the Supreme Court with far right ideologues. Those who believe in privacy rights, who fight for the rights of the most disadvantaged, who believe in the balance of power between the President and Congress, took a stand in support of our country and our Constitution.

“It’s a sad day when the most extreme and divisive conservatives succeeded in sandbagging Harriet Miers’ nomination and replacing her with Justice Alito in an ideological coup. No one will be able to say, in five to ten years, that they’re surprised by the decisions Justice Alito makes from the bench.

“We fought a fight that needed fighting, and we stood on principle.”

2. I'm very proud of him!
Wish he was MY senator! :) Heck, I wish he was in the White House. He has more integrity than almost anyone else I know. He did well.

Off to work on my thank-you card to him...
