1. I will not leave the party
but my first thought at reading your subject line - Chevy Chase - BE THE BALL! I think I'm a fairly loyal DEM. If my candidate does not get a nomination I will roger up, salute smartly and get behind the nominee. I send a few bucks each month to the DSCC. I cross swords at every opportunity with any member of bush's base who wants to fuck with this old buzzsaw wackjob liberal veteran who just loves playing the vet card and forcing chickenhawk down the throats of the flagwavers. I'll stop voting for democrats when they pry the voting machine lever from my cold dead hands.

2. Not leaving. We have to run primary challenges.
We will own this Party in the next ten years, whether the DLC likes it or not.

14. I don't think that statement is defeatism
More often than not, there are posts claiming disgust with the Dems and people threatening or stating that they're leaving. The OP is basically addressing those folks with those concerns.

22. Tell Me. I Implore You. What Exactly Does That Mean? It Changes You How?
I hear that crap statement here all the time. But what does it mean? Does it mean you will choose to vote for a republican if you want? Does it mean you won't get upset anymore when we lose certain battles? Does saying it mean anything at all that changes anything about you or anyone else whatsoever? Or is it just a cry for sympathy that none of us will give you.

Just curious. People keep sayin it, but damned if I know what the fuck the point is.

23. Go take a class in remedial english.
It is what it is. No hidden meanings, no spin, no agenda. It's straightforward, heartfelt, and the precise definition of each word by itself can be Googled if you're that clueless as to what it means. I urge you to do so.

Fuck.
The.
Party.

19. Third Party Votes Go No Where - Give Some MONEY, Vote Dem & Kick Ass!

Don't give up - just get out and get our Dem's in office! That is the only way right now to insure we get Bush out! Tell everyone you know to get registered and that they can vote through the mail by calling their local voting officials for an absentee ballot! There is no excuse not to vote!
:patriot:
I just gave a donation to the Democrats and that is what it is going to take. Put your money and time where your mouth is! The Repub's know that! Their coffers are over flowing!!!

Get with it!

24. We pretty much took over the local party in 2004.
You take over by out hustling everyone else. You do the work, you gain control. Now there is more attention being paid to grass roots campaigning. There's more face to face contact with the voters.

What we did was in May five people got together in a coffee house. We decided we were going to campaign for Kerry. We built an organization using Meetup. From there we made all campaign materials on our home computers. We went around town passing out volunteer forms, registering voters. By the time the party started doing anything, we had 2,000 names. The party made us an offer and we dissolved our group and became volunteers for the party. We manned the office 24 hours a day. They treated us like royalty. We were never without supplies, food and drink. Our wish was their demand. We rebuilt the voter database from scratch.

We knew that Kerry was not going to win in our state so we offered our help to state and local candidates. The people we brought into the fold followed. Not only were we able to hold our ground, we gained a seat in the legislature. Some of our people are now holding high positions in the state party, one is working for a homeless advocacy group in DC, another got a full scholarship to law school. Yet another is working for a law firm in DC. Enough of the core group remains to keep the spirit alive. This time we will have all that data from 2004.

Ben Chandler was a real jewel. He had a child like enthusiasm that just lit up the room. He helped us before party money started flowing in. Still, we did the whole campaign for less than the cost of the Jefferson-Jackson dinner.
