Ed Schultz is a pig
I just heard him take a call from a screaming racist, who thought Tom Tancredo was god's gift to Congress and talking about how all these Aye-leegul Immugrints were turning us into a third world country. Ed lets the loser spout hate until the guys says something marginally sensible (something about how people shouldn't break the law). Ed jumps on this saying how much he agrees with the caller, after having let comments slide about how "they" should stop speaking "their" language and celebrate "our" holidays if "they" want to be accepted.

Then the guy spouts more hate for a couple of minutes until Ed thanks him for the call and goes to a break. Schultz says absolutely nothing to challenge this asshole.

What a creep. Next time, I'm leaving the car radio off from 12-3.

a captive audience. we mostly turn the radio off and listen to the traffic.

3. I have to agree...
He's the reason I listen to my XM Radio instead of the local progressive channel who carries Ed after Al's show.

Ed might get in one good point per day in his show but like you pointed out his interviewing skills really suck. Plus that laugh grates on me.

4. He's no Rush Limbaugh and for those of us who had nothing...he's better
than nothing. Not everyone's taste but good for Dems who want to draw out Limbaugh's listeners who don't like him...but are starved for political viewpoints.

Ed Schultz is more "nuanced" than many DU'ers give him credit for..imho.

But,then, I'm more a Thom Hartmann listener...but am glad Schultz is out there.

5. I also heard him say one day that there was no way Bush
stole the election. Even used the dreaded "conspiracy theory" bullshit. Actually, what's weird is that he sounds exactly like Rush. Sometimes I think it is Rush when I first turn it on.

Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 09:30 PM by Sacajawea
I thought it was just my imagination, but I'm glad to hear that someone else perceives it the same way!

* on edit: I'm referring to the sound of his voice, not to what he says.

6. Oh come on, Ed takes on anyone!
I disagree. Ed gives anyone the chance to make a fool of him/herself. I heard that guy too (who said his Epicopalean priest father "hates" him) and he sounded like a real creep, a true freeper. Ed gave him the rope he richly deserved. And what's wrong with a little courtesy, such as thanking someone for calling? We don't have to conduct ourselves like rethugnicans!

Ed may not be as blue as you or I like, but he has a large audience and speaks to the center as well as the left. Stop acting (sorry for this insult) like rethugs and look at other people in the tent.

That's my opinion and I could be....

16. I agree and while I'm not that fond of Ed
I believe he hits a demographic that Franken, Randi or Stephanie can't get to. My cousin (who is a Democrat) says he knows a lot of guys who should be voting Democratic, but don't. These are the people Ed can reach.

7. He Hung The Caller Out To Dry...
The fact it got you pissed off says it all. He let this guy ramble on and dig himself deeper and deeper into his racism and hypocracy. There's no use in confronting a brainstem like that and it's a good reminder to many who don't listen to the Rushbos to hear the venom that is being pumped on right wing hate radio. I've heard Ed go off on people when they should know better about an issue and show misunderstanding...that toad stool (my appologies to toads and frogs) was just spewing hatred and that in itself is something people need to hear. Confronting a goon like this just ends up in the rehasing of talking points...let the fool spew and get listeners, like yourself, pissed off...then someone's got your attention and thinking...and that's not a bad thing.

14. I heard this caller too...
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 08:17 PM by calipendence
I would probably listen to Randi instead of him at the time I heard him given the choice in my car, but anyway, I don't think it's too fair to criticize Ed for this, as much as I don't agree with a lot of his perspectives. He was letting this caller dig his own grave of crap. Probably should have come down a bit harder on him afterwards, but he did say pretty clearly that he disagreed with him.

It was on a thread of calls that people called in from places like Florida that were trying to rationalize why Tancredo was right about Miami being like the vision of a third world country. Ed was contending with each of them that this was a racist notion and that that was what motivated Tancredo to say what he said. I think his motivations were right, even if he let people say a bit much without a more direct response on their comments.

I wouldn't land on him too much for this show. Other shows I've had more problems with his content than this one.

9. All right! I'm not disappointed.
Haven't seen an Ed bashing thread lately. It's about time DUers got back into Ed bashing. After all, he is only a progressive talk show host who is like a beacon of light in the darkness. After all, how can he be any kind of a good guy when he takes a bit more of a moderate stand than intolerant DUers are willing to take? Thanks for not disappointing us OP, it's high time someone bashed Big Eddie again. If the Ed bashing continues, maybe you all can get him off the air! Then it will be a leftist utopia! Nothing but loud mouth Randi Rhodes all the time! Or maybe Ed Schultz is um, actually a voice of reason in the wilderness of talk radio.

If the caller was that much of an idiot than, really, what is there that could be said? Though I suppose he could have cut him off. It would be like trading monosyllables with a chimpanzee or something.

Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 08:13 PM by nini
that's his way. He always thanks his callers even if they're assholes.

Ed isn't for everyone, but I like him. He's got a whole different approach than Randi - who I also like.

He's kind of like a recovering right-winger who's learning a step at a time. Definitely middle of the road kind of guy.

13. I'm just imagining that same call on Randi or Sam's show
Or Mike Malloy's -- yipe.

As an experiment, someone should call Ed's show and imply that 9/11 was an inside job or that Bush stole the 2004 election. See if he lets you ramble on.

18. That's not what happened
It's fine if you dislike Ed, but at least be truthful.

Ed did say something after the caller. You can listen to it here.
http://audio.wegoted.com/podcasting/112806Hr2Seg1.mp3

Ed basically said he didn't agree with the caller at all, he thought the caller was un-American and had Daddy issues. If this isn't the call you refer to, then I'm sorry. If it is the caller, you should edit your post to correct it.

23. I really don't get it.
Ed spent a good hour of his show clearly stating his disgust with Tancredo's comments. I don't know how anyone could think Ed was in agreement with the caller about anything. In fact, it upsets me that someone would call Ed a pig because a freak called him.

He's not perfect, but frequently people will post out-of context stuff about Ed that paints a false picture.

I find it kind of ironic.

25. This is why I don't listen to big Ed.
I could have answered that by saying that runaway slaves in the south were also illegal back before the Civil War. However, Ed is taped in my area and I can't be bothered to stream to correct him because I doubt if I would get on the air anyway.

Just because something is legal doesn't make it right and because it's illegal, doesn't make it a fair law.
