"I didn't ask you that. I asked how he's doing." (Bush to Sen-Elect Webb, re: Webb's son in Iraq)
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 10:26 PM by journalist3072
Accoring to The Hill, things got a little testy between Idiot Son Bush and Senator-Elect Jim Webb.

Bush asked Webb how Webb's son (serving in Iraq) is doing. Webb said "I just want him home soon" to which Bush responded "I didn't ask you that. I asked how he's doing."

Any President worth their salt might have responded to Webb by saying 'I understand sir. I want your son, and all of our troops, home soon as well.'

Instead, Bush in effect tells Webb he doesn't give a sh*t about him wanting his son back home soon.

Is George Bush even able to comprehend that Jim Webb is not just a politician?

He's also an American parent who wants his brave child serving in Iraq, home soon.

2. Webb has to get in line...
Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source, but of course didn’t.

...and it's a long line.

5. ARGHHHHHHHH!
"He's also an American parent who wants their brave child serving in Iraq, home soon."

I'm adding this sentence to my Bad English list.

It's comparable to "No mother should be forced to testify against their child."

And that one I took off the TV news.

30. One of my former journalism professors...
...used to frequently call the local television news stations--after she witnessed them
botching the English language.

She would read them the riot act--complaining that journalists should know how to use
correct grammar during their newscasts.

I wonder if she still does that...

15. I think Webb's answer was indicating that he'd rather not discuss the matter with Bush.
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 10:51 PM by Make7
Edited to move the beginning to the end and to eliminate some redundancy.

Most people realize that when someone doesn't answer a direct question, it often means they would rather not discuss it.

George W. Bush, diplomat extraordinaire. :eyes:

What I would like to see in an upcoming Presidential press conference is when Bush doesn't answer the question asked, the member of the press follows up with "I didn't ask you that. I asked you ...".

41. Have you ever watched when the U.K. Parliament asks the Prime Minister questions?
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 04:18 AM by Make7
Edit to remove apostrophe that was unnecessary

It's usually much more entertaining than anything you might see in American politics. I remember a few years ago when one of the Ministers asked Tony Blair a question which he promptly avoided with some bullshit answer that didn't really address the question. Not much of a surprise for a politician to do that, but when the next Minister had his turn to ask a question he said (I'm paraphrasing here), "I have only one question. Are you going to answer his question?" (Referring to the previously inadequately answered question.) 'Twas a beautiful thing. I wish we would see things like that in the U.S.

BTW - I have seen Bush allow follow up questions, but certainly not when he doesn't like the original one.

33. I had this fantasy of Webb snapping back at him -
"Well, THAT'S how I'm answering. Ask me again when YOU have YOUR kid in Iraq."

Or maybe bush was expecting Webb to fall on his knees and worship, and kiss the hem of bush's garment, and murmur with great supplication - "oh, THANK YOU, sire! THANK YOU, m'lord, for remembering my son. THANK YOU for so thoughtfully asking me about his wellbeing, oh great master."

SCHMUCK. He ought to be grateful that nobody calls him SCHMUCK to his face. Yet.
