Let's be honest about the liberal bias in the media. |
|
There is a liberal bias in the media. If, the media is truthful. Look at the Iraq mess. If the media is honest about what is happening, aren't the reporters involved being favorable to progress or reform? Wouldn't a free press be tolerant, free from prejudice or bigotry? You know, biased. Towards being liberal. Would a free press favor democracies or monarchies? Would a free press be dishonest?

6. Intellectually liberal vs politically liberal... |
|
should be discussed.
It is not a bias as defined lately in political terms but an objectivity. The real bias is towards what will sell and what is popular.
Because media is no longer local, it will appear biased to some group or another.

8. I disagree I think using the word bias connotes partiality |
|
from Dictionary.com.
a particular tendency or inclination, esp. one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question; prejudice. —Synonyms 2. predisposition, preconception, predilection, partiality, proclivity; bent, leaning. Bias, prejudice mean a strong inclination of the mind or a preconceived opinion about something or someone. A bias may be favorable or unfavorable: bias in favor of or against an idea. Prejudice implies a preformed judgment even more unreasoning than bias, and usually implies an unfavorable opinion: prejudice against a race. 9. predispose, bend, incline, dispose. —Antonyms 2. impartiality.
I think you do your argument a disservice by using the word bias, because it contradicts the notion of tolerance, freedom from prejudice and bigotry....
I do think that liberal thought and philosophy is in line with professional objective journalism.

9. "The media" is a term used to describe tens of thousands of people, |

Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 10:57 AM by Fierce
all working toward vaguely similar goals, most of whom are trying to do the right thing from the bottom up, and who are being crushed by the drive for profits from above. To pretend "the media" (Fox/MSNBC/CNN? NYT? WaPo? Your hometown daily? NPR? All of the above?) is one big wad with one big label drives me right up the wall.
