1. Let me be the first to send this to the top of the website. Amen. |
|
Powel weighs in, and it's reality based.
That's called payback, methinks.

3. Well General Powell, for those of us who were around when |
|
you tried to cover up the My Lai massacre, I certainly regret you're EVER being in a position of influence, responsibility, and power (no matter if it was the military or what). You are also a lying slug.

I don't much care what he has to say. He has proven what a shallow piece of craps he really is. Where was his conscience back when it might have carried any weight? It wasn't important then...and it isn't now.

Is that this man had the makings of our first African-American President. He would have won too. Instead he chose to be a Bush whore. A fine lesson here of what happens when you take the wrong path. You want to assuage your guilt Colin? Fine. But you also deserve a conviction here when it goes to the Hague. You KNEW better. You KNEW what was up. Yet you DID NOTHING to stop it. A willing accomplice in the eyes of the law. Maybe if you divulge all of your secrets, they will be lenient on you. But make no mistake, YOU are a war criminal. You aren't any better or any worse than the others. Don't fool yourself.

A better statement would have been, "Bush needs to face reality."

8. Which means the IWR is NO LONGER OPERABLE. There is no mission for civil war |
|
interference in the IWR. This needs to be presssed.

12. IWR is not a binding resolution. |
|
We haven't officially declared war since WWII. You'll notice we've still waged plenty of them.

15. Warner during withdrawal debate said Bush will need a NEW resolution once Civil War |
|
interference becomes the mission.
It was part of his senate floor exchange with Kerry and he promised to make it happen. We applauded it on the threads here blogging the senate debate.

20. Okay, that's well and good and all... |
|
But not only does the Senate have very little power over how the war is run, Warner is also no longer chair of that committee. Even if they are "required" to pass such a new resolution, I'm still unsure as to how it will be enforced, short of stopping funding for the war, which would be a disastrous political move.
True though, the debate will be very healthy, and I don't think they require Bush to label it a civil war for such a debate to occur. I just don't see that being the panacea for getting us out of Iraq.

22. No, that part is understood - but it would really force a more serious look at |
|
exitting BECAUSE of the reality of civil war. Warner will still be ranking memebr and it will matter to have his involvement on making this happen in any honest form.
I am trying to recall what exactly was said by Warner at the time, but I think he referred to some bylaw where America's military is not allowed to be involved in the civil wars of other nations.
Cspan has the debate archived, and I am going to have to dig it up at some point and shake the cobwebs a little.

25. Relying on memory here but it was the reason why there would have to be a new |
|
vote to authorize a mission that included civil war.
That's about all I can offer until I track down the video or the transcript and I won't be able to get to that till later this afternoon.

Powell knew going into Iraq was a mistake. He should have spoken out PUBLICLY before now.:( He gets no pass from me on anything he says and does these days. He should be hanging his head in shame. The media would have listened to HIM had he spoken out against this illegal invasion earlier....while he had power.

10. Colin Powell is a liar and hypocrite who put loyalty before integrity |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 11:58 AM by Raiden
this is understood, BUT he still has incredible weight as far as the MSM is concerned--they cannot deny that the War in Iraq has descended into chaos and become a civil war if Colin Powell insists that that is the case.
That Colin Powell acknowledges that this is a Civil War is great news for the reality-based community! :-)
