Jesus! Obamas middle name is Hussein....
It's bad enough that he has to overcome his first and last name in racist America....

If you thought Obama's last name was enough of a political pitfall, the Republicans are just getting started. Last night on Hardball, GOP strategist Ed Rogers ridiculed a potential Obama candidacy by using — possibly for the first time on cable news — Obama's little-known and politically unfortunate middle name. "Count me down as somebody that underestimates Barack Hussein Obama," Rogers said. Expect to hear this sort of thing again and again if Obama runs for President. To watch the video, click here. (Special thanks to Crooks and Liars.)

59. My grandpa's name was Adolph, he was a kind, soft-spoken man
who never had anyone named after him.

When my youngest son was born, I gave him my grandpa's name for his middle name.

To me, doing so symbolized the power of goodness and kindness over hate.

2. Sauce for the gander, I guess
We Dems had fun with George Felix Allen, after all.

And who knows. If things keep going south in the Middle East, Joe Sixpack might well decide that it's going to take someone named Hussein to put them back in order.

19. Indeed, our local newscast once flashed "Barack Osama" onscreen
particularly unfortunate out here where he grew up, attended the prestigious Punahou School (where Michelle Wie goes now), and visits every year at the holidays (he still has a sisteer here). Ouch.

I did call them on it, and someone at the station actually reviewed the tape and said "Oops!".

31. Back in 2004 when he was running, my first thought was
"Oh, crap! There's no way he's going to withstand the attacks from the IL GOP. His name's just one letter off from Osama."

Then, the GOP tanked with Jack Ryan and put Alan Keyes up as their go to guy to win (lose) in a landslide.

9. They are terrified of Obama
He's got few or no negatives. Mocking his name is about all they can come up with. Repukes talk up the guys they can slaughter in a general election and attack the strongest candidates.

I watched Rogers' act, and it was obvious that Obama as a candidate scares him. His ridicule and spin was very transparent. I spent four days with Obama writing a story, and he appeals very, very strongly to independents and even reasonable Republicans.

If he gets the nomination, he'll win by a landslide.

he'll win by a landslide.

And we've got some purples states in both regions - but they're not gonna vote for a black man - OR a white woman.

Sorry.

49. Amen.
Obama wouldn't carry ANY southern states, and he would have to in order to win. The electoral votes just aren't there without taking at least a southern state or two, in addition to bringing NM and Iowa back into the Dem fold.

Obama is not a transcendent figure in the South like perhaps Colin Powell is. Obama's impatience is going to cost him I'm afraid. 2008 is too soon for him, he has NOTHING he has accomplished to point to, he has a TERRIBLE name to run with, and he is a minority. These are big obstacles to overcome. Powell would have had a tough time of getting elected, and he was imminently more electable at his height than Obama is.

Too soon, Obama. Too soon. Go accomlish something first, please. We don't need another president who will learn on the job.

Perhaps it SHOULDNT matter, and it certainly won't alter the impression thinking americans have of him...but there are a whole lot of non-thinkers out there that would let something as trivial affect their vote.

Sad but true I am afraid. I think only a hopelessly optimisitic (borderline naive) or sheltered individual would think otherwise.
